ヒアルロン酸を飲むと膝に効くか（120413）
皇○を飲むと変形性膝関節症の症状は軽減するだろうか。少数のパイロットスタディがあった
ので学生と一緒に抄読会。
●PECO
P：Twenty subjects aged > or =40 years with knee osteoarthritis (pain for at least 15 days in the
previous month, symptoms present for > or =6 months, Kellgren/Lawrence score > or =2)
E：Ten subjects received AP (80 mg/day)（dietary supplementation with a natural extract of
chicken combs with a high content of hyaluronic acid (60%) (Hyal-Joint) (active test product, AP)）
C：10 placebo for 8 weeks.
O：The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and quality of
life by the Short Form-36 (SF-36v2)
40 歳以上の変形性膝関節症の患者に対して、鶏のトサカ由来のヒアルロン酸を投与すると、プ
ラセボと比較して、8 週間後の症状・疼痛スコアである WOMAC や QOL スコアである SF-36v2 が
改善するかどうかを検討した研究であることが分かる。
●妥当か
抄録中に Randomized、本文中に All randomized subjects were included in the intent-to treat
population.とある。ただし、解析に加えられていない症例が 4 例あるため、厳密な意味での ITT 解
析は行われていない。この割合は全症例の 20％なので、結果の解釈については注意が必要だ。
●結果
結果は、ヒアルロン酸群でやや良好な傾向を認めるものの、WOMAC、SF-36v2 ともに統計学的
な差を認めないという結果であった。
With regard to results of the WOMAC Index, the comparison of mean (SD) scores for the pain
dimension between the study groups (primary efficacy variable) did not show statistically
significant differences (AP 6.3 [4.0]; placebo 6.4 [2.7], P = 0.943).

For the primary efficacy endpoint of the SF-36v2 (bodily pain), differences between the study
groups at week 8 were not statistically significant (AP 44.9 [10.1]; placebo 38.6 [5.4], P = 0.143)

少なくとも悪い結果ではないというのは良かったんじゃないかと思う。これは医薬品ではないし、
まあ、趣味みたいなものと考えればとやかく言う気分もなくなる。（少しくらい高くないと飲んだ気が
しない人のために、皇○のようなラインナップがあるのだと思うけど・・・こういう高い商品について
は口を出したくなってしまう。）
