The Japanese Language Proficiency Test 日本語能力試験
Movie Theatre Schedule
The 2011 Winter JLPT is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 4. There are 5 levels available - N1, N2,
N3, N4, and N5; N1 is the most difficult. The application period for the winter test starts on Friday, August 26 &
ends on Friday, September 30.
Application booklets are available at major bookstores in Japan such as Maruzen (丸善) in Sakae and Sanseido (三
省堂) on the 11th Floor of the JR Central Towers. The application guide costs 500 Yen, and the actual test application costs 5500 Yen.

The BJT ビジネス日本語能力テスト
The BJT is a proficiency test that measures your current communicative proficiency in business Japanese. The results are processed and evaluated on a
scale of six levels from J5 to J1+. The test costs 7000 Yen and is held in Nagoya and other major cities. The next test is scheduled to take place on Sunday,
November 20. The application period ends on Friday, October 14. You can apply on-line (www.kanken.or.jp/bjt/english) and pay with a credit card, at
a convenience store using the in-store ticket machine, or at a participating book store (see official website for details).

in a printer-friendly PDF format. Audio samples of listening questions are also available in a downloadable
iPod-friendly MP3 format.

City of Nagoya BoE Japanese Class for Children
名古屋市教育委員会による子ども日本語教室
The City of Nagoya Board of Education has open two Japanese classes for children currently attending public
elementary or junior-high school in Nagoya City. A beginner class (shoki-nihongo-shūchū-kyōshitsu 初期日本語集中
教室) for children who are unable to communicate in Japanese, and a school-level class
(nihongo-tsūkyū-shidō-kyōshitsu 日本語通級指導教室) for children who find it difficult to understand instruction in
regular school lessons. To join, parents should contact the child’s regular school teacher.
Step Up School ステップアップスクール
A free, special brush-up course for young students aged 15+ of all nationalities. This course is ideal for those who
would like to either improve their Japanese and mathematics skills in order to enter Japanese high school, or for
those who have not graduated from junior high school but would like to reach that level of education. The course
runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays (18:30 - 20:20) from September 22 to December 15 in Tsurumai.

Nagoya City Public Elementary School Enrollment Applications 小学校入学に関する手続きについて
Were you aware that children of foreign nationality can enroll in public elementary schools?
If you live in Nagoya City and would like your child to attend a Nagoya City public elementary school (koritsu shogakko 公立小学校) from April 2012,
you can apply at your local ward office’s citizen’s section (shimin-ka 市民課). Applications for children born between April 2, 2005 and April 1, 2006
are now being accepted.
Enrollment is based upon the residential area you live in and children cannot enroll in a school in an area where they are not a resident. After application,
it will be necessary for your child to have a medical check-up on a specific date (after October 1) set up by the local elementary school. In January 2012
a notice of enrollment acceptance (shugaku tsuchi-sho 就学通知書) will be mailed out from the local ward office.
For more information please contact your local ward office’s citizen’s section (shimin-ka 市民課). For inquiries in English (and other languages) please use
the NIC’s Toriohon 3-way call System - available in English Tuesday through Friday 09:00 -17:00 at 052-581-6112.
Nagoya International Center Children’s Japanese Class 子ども日本語教室
This course is taught by volunteers and is designed for children (born between April 2 1996 and April 1 2005)
whose native language is not Japanese. Students learn Japanese skills necessary for school and daily life.
Applications will be accepted on Sunday, September 11 (09:45 - 10:15) at the Nagoya International Center
4F Lecture Room 3; fee collection will start at around 11:00. A parent or guardian should attend the application process and bring a filled out application form; part of the form needs to be filled out by the child’s
school teacher. Forms are available from the 3F pamphlet boxes or from the NIC website.
Term: Every Sunday from September 18 to November 27 (11 classes, 90 minutes each).
Participation Fee: 1000 Yen covers all 11 classes. Places: Maximum 30 places.
