Our overall concern is with questions of how literature is an integral part of society and culture. This concern includes, but expands beyond, consideration of aesthetics, narrative, and author. We read a range of stories, poems, and novels to bring into focus questions of art, aesthetics, and how to read literature while also considering issues of gender, identity, and the intersections of literature and social activism. Our course centers on close readings of selected texts. 到達目標 / Course Objectives Students will learn how to read and critically discuss a wide range of literary texts. They should read comparatively in both Japanese and English. In addition, there will be study questions for each reading selection that students will need to prepare and bring to class for discussion. Discussions will be carried out in English. Students will be expected to read and review all assigned readings and a weekly reading response. In addition they will be expected to participate in discussions and make a presentation in class. 方法 / Course Content 定期試験を行わず、平常試験(小テスト・レポート等)で総合評価する。 50% Weekly Reading Report 成績評価の方法・基準 Grading Policies / 30% Preparation and Participation in class 20% Presentation and Papers Evaluation Criteria 基準 / Evaluation Criteria Students will be evaluated based on homework and class participation.
