WelcomebackRichmondfamiliesandwelcometoRichmondtoallofthe
newfamilieswhohavejoinedourcommunity.TheRichmondSchool
Foundation(RSF)isoneofthreenon-profitparentorganizations
supportingourschool.TheRSF'ssinglepurposeistoraisetax-deductible
contributionsthatgodirectlytoenhancingourchildren'seducationby
fundingstaffpositionsthatarenotcoveredbythedistrict.Thispastyear,
thankstoyourgeneroussupportoftheone-timecombinedPTA/RSFRun
forRichmond,wehavesomepartialfundingtopotentiallyhirenewstaff
tosupportourteachersandstudents!
EverybodygetreadyinOctoberforthenewandimprovedRSFRead-athon!Thisfunandeducationalfundraisingeventprovidesvaluablereading
timeforourchildrenwhilegarneringsupportfromfriendsandfamily.This
year,prizeswillbeintheformofvoucherstowardspurchasingbooksat

Theschoolyearstartedoffwithabangthisyearwithanicecreamsocial
thatservedwellover800scoopsoficecreamtostudents,staff,and
parents!AhugethankyoutoournewSpecialEventsteam,SaoriClarkand
JamieUyeda,whocoordinatedthiseventatitsnewtimeanddate.The
newtimingpresentedsomechallenges,andthedemandforicecreamwas
high,butthissuperSpecialEventsteambroughtsmilestohundredsof
faces.

NewNursesOffice新 し い 保 健 室 ThisyearthereisanewdeliveryofhealthservicesinPPS,specifically
theFranklincluster.Intheelementaryandmiddleschoolsyouwill
nowfinda"studenthealthassistant"(alsoknownas'SHA')fivedaysa
week,5-7hoursaday.TheyaretrainedincoursessuchasEpi-Pen
administration,medicationadministration,FirstAid/CPR,Glucagon,etc.Theirresponsibilityisthecareofallillnessandinjury
needsofthestudent,andtheyworkincollaborationwiththeschoolnurse.Theschoolnursesnowtakeon5schoolsandare
assignedtooneschoolperday.Theschoolnursesarenowtakingonmoreindepthrolescommonlyreferredtoas"case
management".Thenurseworkswithadministratorsandstafftoensureproperstafftrainingonvarioustopics,alongwith
communicatingwithfamilytohelpcreate"studenthealthmanagementplans"forthosestudentsmanagingcomplexhealthneeds
intheschoolsetting.Theschoolnurseisalsoavailabletohelpfamilieswithoutreachneeds(variouscommunityresources).Both
thenurseandSHAcanbereachedbycallingthefrontofficeorbyemail.
