for paper products which we can recycle．Now you can find many products with these logos．

Some houses can have these logos too．Here is an architect who has designed such houses ― houses made of
recycled paper．His name is Ban Shigeru．People call him“The Paper Architect．
” When Ban Shigeru was a high school student，he became interested in architecture．After high school，he
went to America to study it．①There he went to school and（ buildings，design，how，lear ned，to ）．
Then he
came back to Japan and has designed many wonderful buildings．He is teaching architecture at a school in
Tokyo now．One day he found paper can be very strong when it is rolled into tubes．Then he designed a house
made of the paper tubes．

So，when there was a big earthquake in Kobe in 1995，he designed
temporary shelters made of the paper tubes．In the earthquake many people lost their houses and he wanted to
help them．Many people were interested in his idea and tried to help him．

He worked very
hard with many other volunteers and built thirty paper temporary shelters in Kobe．His temporary shelters are
very kind to people and the earth．Why ? First，they are cheap and environmentally friendly because paper
tubes are made from 100 % recycled paper．Second，it is easy for everyone to build them because paper tubes
are very light． Ban Shigeru also works with the United Nations．When there was a big earthquake in Turkey in 1999，he
was asked to build the paper temporary shelters．Many people there lost their houses in the earthquake．
