There are 12 groups and artists featuring a range of styles ranging from tango and salsa to traditional Andean music from Peru. There are also two “carnival style” parades through the Osu Shopping Arcade (13:40 – 14:40 & 15:40 – 16:40). Hamlet 英語演劇「ハムレット」 Nameless Media and Productions Theatre (NMP Theatre) is a community theatre group bringing together a diverse and international team of Nagoya-based artists. Their second production of 2012 is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This show will be presented with Japanese subtitles and directed by Carl Bradley. About: The King of Denmark is dead. Mourning the loss of his father, Prince Hamlet retreats into a world of solitude and despair. However, after discovering that his father was in fact violently murdered, Hamlet embarks on a cycle of destructive revenge that threatens to bring down the very state of Denmark itself. Encompassing political intrigue and sexual obsession, philosophical reflection and violent action, tragic depth and wild humour, Hamlet is Shakespeare’s ‘poem unlimited’, a colossus in the story of the English language and the fullest expression of Shakespeare’s genius. Nagoya International Center Services - Visit or call the NIC 3F for more information - 052-581-0100 海はモンスターでいっぱい This special exhibition, celebrating the first anniversary of the opening of the Nagoya City Science Museum’s new wing, will introduce the evolution of sea creatures from 600 million years ago to the present day, highlighting their journey of evolution and history of diversity. All creatures living on Earth are descendants of creatures born in the oceans 300 million years ago that evolved over a long period of time. It is estimated that over 95 percent of marine creatures became extinct around 250 million years ago and 75 percent of all species became extinct around 65 million years ago destroying a huge diversity of creatures many with a unique shape and appearance that many may describe as a “modern-day monster”. There are 300 exhibits on show including a 12m long plesiosauria “Loch Ness Monster”, an 18m long ancestor of the whale, and a coelacanth - a fish once thought extinct. The program includes Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt - the music to the play by Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen. The Spring Special Exhibition - The Okaya Collection: The Prosperous Merchant Family's Artistic Sensibility 春季特別展 - 豪商のたしなみ―岡谷コレクション― This is a special exhibition commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the museum’s new wing and the 80th anniversary of the Tokugawa Gardens. Eighty-eight treasured masterpieces of calligraphy, tea utensils and paintings of Edo Period, including Important Cultural Properties, were donated to the Tokugawa Art Museum in 1965 in accordance with the will of Sosuke OKAYA (1887-1965). The Okaya were one of the wealthiest merchant families in Nagoya. In 1669, the Okaya established a metalware shop in the castle town of Nagoya and today it operates as OKAYA & CO., LTD. With offices in 16 countries around the world. Since the initial viewing after the donation, this occasion marks the first time that these works will be publicly displayed all together. Students learn Japanese skills necessary for school and daily life. The spring term has 10, 90-minute classes and runs every Sunday (10:00 - 11:30) from May 20 to July 22; 1000 Yen covers all 10 classes and there are only 30 places available. Applications will be accepted on Sunday, May 13 (09:45 - 10:15) at the Nagoya International Center 4F, Lecture Room 3; fee collection will start at around 11:00. A parent or guardian should attend the application process and bring a filled out application form; part of the form needs to be filled out by the child’s school teacher. As part of its international understanding education program, NIC’s Classroom for Global Citizen’s program is looking for foreign instructors to visit schools and local organizations and introduce their home countries. We are looking for instructors who are able to communicate in Japanese, who are available during the day time.
