Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services The Birches Academy is an arts integrated charter in Salem, NH. The Birches has doubled in size from 88 to 168 students in Grades 1-­‐8 since it opened in September 2012. Because of the increase in our student population, our physical expansion, and our increase in technology to help student learning, we are seeking a part-­‐time Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services to help with the following responsibilities. •

To execute such duties as assigned by the Head of School.
To assist the Head of School in articulating and advocating for the curricular,
instructional and student centered mission of The Birches Academy of Academics
and Art and maintaining an effective and positive learning climate in the school.
To assist in the development of the school handbook designed to define rules and
regulations of the school with respect to student behavior.
To research and help align innovative, arts integrated curriculum with the New
Hampshire State Frameworks, Common Core State Standards, and Core
Knowledge Sequence.
Assist the Head of School in the development, revision, and monitoring of the
instructional program.
To facilitate publicizing school programs and events.
To consult with teachers on instructional problems, as appropriate, and to assist
teachers in improving their classroom performance.
To assist the Head of School in providing appropriate staff development
opportunities for teachers and other staff.
Cultivate positive and professional relationships with students, faculty, parents,
trustees, and community members.
Assist in redirecting student behaviors and providing conflict resolution.
Support a school environment that is respectful, responsible, compassionate, and
aware.
Foster and assist regular, ongoing, and open dialogue with the staff, parents, and
the Board of Trustees.
Assist work on grants that support the economic viability of the school.
Assist with assessments, progress reports and testing and data analysis that
supports student learning.
Assist in place of the Head of School in his/her absence.
