7 Rhodes Names in Katakana The Japanese writing system consists of three scripts, Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. The three scripts are used regularly in all Japanese texts and each script has a different purpose. Hiragana characters are used to spell Japanese words and grammar, Katakana characters are used to spell words borrowed from foreign languages and Kanji are symbols borrowed from the Chinese language, used to represents whole or parts of words.
