Mark Boyle
My name is Mark Boyle and I
am one of several new Assistant
Language Teachers working in
the Imabari area. I, personally
have been assigned to the area of
Namikata and Hashihama. I am a
23 year old man from Ireland and
it has been my ambition for years
to come to Japan with the Jet
Programme for a long time.
Back in Ireland I was a semi-professional actor and
singer in the evenings but my main job consisted of working with
children with autism and other related behaviour difficulties. The
work was often difficult but always rewarding. In university I
studied psychology through science but also spent a bit of time
abroad working with similar children in India and Belarus (in
Eastern Europe). I heard about the Jet Programme several years
ago and since then, Japan as a destination has always been in
the back of my mind. I started to become interested in Japanese
culture, trying sushi and watching anime. So far my favourite
anime is Death Note (Desu Noto) but I am beginning to watch
One Piece also. In case you are interested, my favourite character
is Roronoa Zoro. Katanas are so cool!
I have been in Namikata now for three months and
despite some small language difficulties I am really enjoying my
time here. Working in the schools especially is a lot of fun as the
kids are so energetic and so ready to get involved in whatever it
is you’re doing. I like going for runs into Imabari in the evening,
so if you see a foreigner running between Kitago Highschool and
the circle K in North Imabari, then it’s probably me.

僕の名前はマーク　ボイル、今治の新しいALT(英語指
導助手)です。波方と波止浜地区で教えています。僕は
アイルランド出身の23歳で、日本でジェットプログラム(*
注）に参加してALTとして働きたいと長年にわたって思
っていました。
アイルランドでは、夜は、セミプロの俳優や歌手の仕
事をしながら、主に自閉症児や行動障害のある子ども
達の仕事をしていました。仕事は難しいところもありまし
たが、いつも得るものがありました。大学では、科学的
知識として心理学を学びながら、海外体験として、イン
ドやベラルーシ共和国（東ヨーロッパ）で同様の子ども
達の仕事をしたこともあります。
数年前にジェットプログラムのことを聞き、それからずっ
と僕の中で目的地は日本だと思っていました。日本文
化に興味を持ち始め、寿司を挑戦したり、アニメを見た
りしました。
今までのところ好きなアニメは 'デスノート'ですが、現在
'ワンピース'も見ていますよ。
一応念のため、あなたが興味あるなら言いますが、僕
の好きなキャラクターはノノロア・ゾロです。刀が超かっ
こいい！
現在、僕は波方に3カ月間いて、言語の難しさは多少
あるけれど本当に楽しく過ごしています。学校での仕
事ですが、子供達は、とてもエネルギッシュで、何をす
るにも夢中になってくれます。夕方、市内に向かって走
ることが好きで、北郷中学と今治北部にあるサークルK
の間で走っている外国人を見かけたらそれは僕だと思
います。
また、読書や執筆も好きです。今後i-Newsに寄稿でき
たらと思っています。どうぞよろしくお願いします。

学省及び財団法人自治体国際化協会（CLAIR）の協力の下に実施して
いる語学指導等を行う外国青年招致事業です。
