Application for an internship position at the Tokyo Foundation
April 4, 2012
Dear Sir, Madam
Please accept this application letter and resume as representing my sincere interest in an
intern position in your renowned institution. As a Master’s student in International Relations with a
focus on Japanese foreign relations at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and
Civilizations in Paris, France, I look forward to applying my academic training in the multicultural
environment that your think tank is.
After graduating in Japanese language and civilization (Bachelor’s degree), I worked for 3
and a half years as a trilingual translator and interpreter (French, Japanese and English) for a
Japanese firm based in Tokyo. Thanks to this, I am completely fluent in Japanese and I have a
good understanding of Japanese culture. My studies in International Relations at the National
Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris have given me the opportunity to deepen
my knowledge in Japanese foreign policy, a topic in which I have a profound interest. Moreover, I
have also had the chance to do research on various topics with a focus on International Relations.
I possess excellent analytical and writing skills in all three of my languages. As a translator,
attention to detail was also an essential skill I learned. I am sure that working as an intern at the
Tokyo Foundation would be an excellent opportunity to learn about the practical workings of a
think tank and to apply my academic knowledge in a professional setting. I would be available
from May 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012, full time.
Thank you for considering my application. I remain at your disposal for any other
information.
Yours faithfully,
Gaëlle Saoût

Dear Sir, Madam
I recommend you the application of Gaëlle Saoût for an internship position inside of your team, at the Tokyo
Foundation.
I have hired Gaëlle previously for the position of responsible volunteer for the press review on Vietnam. She
assumed her job immediately and very efficiently, making up for lost time that we took during the vacancy.
She wrote several press reviews very clear and synthesized from many different sources, perfectly adapted
to our readers. She suggested changes in the method used previously. This produces a press review in a
timely manner to our correspondents.
The qualities of resourcefulness and adaptability of Gaëlle to a context that a priori she did not know and her
level of knowledge make it an excellent candidate.
Yours faithfully,
