ハロー！Meet the New CIR!
初めまして。小坂町の9代目の国際交流員として働かせていただくことになりましたドミニ
ック・アボードと申します。どうぞ宜しくお願いいたします。
アメリカ合衆国のカリフォルニア州サンフランシスコ市の出身で、大学時代にカリブ諸島
のバルバドス島で留学した期間以外に、日本に来るまでずっとベイエリアという所に住ん
でいました。基本的に「サンフランシスコ出身だよ！」と言う人は周りの小さい街でよく生ま
れますけれども、生まれも育ちもベイエリアなので、本当のサンフランシスコっ子だと自慢
できます。喜んで案内しますので、私の故郷の事を知りたい方は遠慮なくご質問ください。
小坂町に来る前に、6ヶ月愛知県岡崎市の子ども向けの英会話教室、その後、名古屋
市に引越し、2年間小中学校の英語指導助手とダンスの先生として働きました。そして旅行
が好きで、これまで、日本国内22の県に行ったことがあり、日本を離れる前に、すべての
県を訪れる事を目指しております。
しかし、日本滞在は長いにもかかわらず、日本語で話せる言葉はまだ少なく、日本の分
からない事がたくさんあります。それで、皆様に日本語や日本文化、日本料理の作り方等
を教えていただいたり、また、小坂町の観光地や祭り等を案内していただくと、とても嬉しい
です。
国際交流を奨励する為の活動やイベント、そして、今から少し心配な寒い冬の大雪の中
でも、小坂町の皆様と仲良くなれる事を楽しみにしておりますので、私を見かけたら、気軽

Hi there! My name is Dominic Abordo, and I've been selected as Kosaka's ninth and
newest CIR. How's it going?
I'm originally from San Francisco, CA in the United States, and with exception to a
semester abroad in Barbados, I've lived in the Bay Area my whole life. People who say
that they're from "The City By the Bay" are usually from a smaller neighboring town,
but as someone who was born and raised in the heart of the Bay Area, I can proudly
claim that I'm a true San Franciscan. For those interested in learning more about my
hometown, please feel free to ask. I'd be more than happy to tell you all about the city.
Before coming to Kosaka, I spent six months teaching at a children's English
conversation school in Okazaki (Aichi). After that, I moved to Nagoya and worked for
two years as both a dance teacher and an elementary and junior high school ALT. As
someone who enjoys traveling, I've ventured to twenty-two of Japan's prefectures and
hope to visit the remaining twenty-five before leaving the country.
While I've lived in Japan for a long time, there are still many things I don't know
about the country. Please teach me all you can about the Japanese language, culture,
and cooking in addition to things about Kosaka, its tourist sights, and its festivals. I'd
be ever so grateful.
Whether at international events, in the deep winter snow, or anywhere else in the
area, I look forward to getting to know all of you. Please don't hesitate to say hello if

８月１７日（日）に来町されたJICA研修員の方々９ヶ国、１０名を歓迎して、２１日（木）に天使館でパーティーが開催されました。
下の感想文も併せて、ご覧ください。
On Sunday, August 17, ten JICA participants from nine different countries arrived in Kosaka. The following Thursday,
August 21, a welcome party was held on their behalf. Reflections on the event are written below.
歓迎会の会場に入ると、すぐ右側にダニエルさんのカクテルコーナーがありまし
た。会が始まるまでリラックスして先に飲み物を飲んでください、という趣向です。
ＪＩＣＡ研修員の方々が、そのコーナーでビールや飲み物をひとくち飲んだ後に歓迎
会が始まりました。
ＪＩＣＡ研修員の自己紹介の場面では、何か１つ披露してくださいと、ブラジルの研
修員に司会者がテーブルの下から突如サッカーボールを出してリフティングをやっ
てもらったり、歌あり、お国の言葉ありとなかなかおもしろかったです！
スイカ割りも大盛上がり、みんな大笑いですごく楽しかったです。
それと、通訳の新ＣＩＲドミニックさんの日本語がとても上手で驚きました！新ＡＬＴ
のダニエルさんも「やったことない」と言いつつ立ちっぱなしでバーテンダーになりき
って会を盛上げてくれました。
リラックスしていい雰囲気の楽しい歓迎会でした。

JICA研修員に日本文化の茶道・ゆかたの着付けを体験していただこうと企画しました、「小坂音頭の会」の
方々から小坂音頭を教えていただきます！！研修員といっしょにぜひ参加してください。
We've planned to give the JICA participants a chance to experience elements of Japanese culture
such as traditional tea ceremony and wearing a yukata. Our visitors will also learn how to do the local
Kosaka Ondo Dance. Please join the JICA participants for this cultural event.
Date and Time: Friday, September 5 from 7 PM
Location: Sepamu (This event is FREE!)
As you entered the hall, Daniel's Cocktail Corner was on your right. The idea behind this
was for people to relax over drinks before the event. The JICA participants and party-goers
had a bit to drink, and then the welcome party began.
During self-introductions, when JICA participants were asked to share something about
themselves or their home countries, the event chairperson suddenly took out a soccer ball
from under a table for our Brazilian visitor, and we were treated to a short demonstration.
Others sang songs or spoke in their native languages. It was all very interesting to watch.
The Watermelon Splitting Game had everyone laughing hysterically. That, too, was a lot of fun.
Besides that, I was surprised at how well Dominic, the new CIR and interpreter for the event,
spoke Japanese. Daniel, the new ALT, who claimed he'd never bartended before, remained
standing throughout the event, served drinks, and helped everyone get into the mood of the party.
Overall, the JICA participants' welcome party was a relaxed and enjoyable event.

Get to Know the JICA Participants
国旗描き：Flag Painting
今年は初来町の国はありませんので、今までの国旗を手直ししたり、研修員にサイン
を入れていただくのが主な内容になります。 ワイワイ言いながら描きましょう。
Because there are no new countries visiting Kosaka this year, we will focus on touching up the
existing flags, and JICA participants will add their signatures to the wall. Come have fun painting with us!

お待たせしました、新CIRドミニックさんによる英会話が始まります。今年は新
しいいろいろなプランを打ち出して今まで以上に楽しいクラスにしたいです。
あなたの参加を待っています。９月４日（木）から毎週木曜日に開講します。
Sorry for the wait! Dominic, Kosaka Town's new CIR, will begin teaching English
Conversation classes soon. He's working on a variety of new plans and aims to
make his classes a whole lot of fun. We hope you'll join us. Classes will be held

今回のスペイン語講座が６月１７日から始まるとわかったとき、「やったー！」と思いまし
た。昨年までは７月末頃に開講で、私にとって簡単なコミュニケーションを取ることができ
るようになる前にＪＩＣＡ研修員が来町してしまうことが多かったからです。
講座の内容も昨年までの会話を中心としたものから、文法を中心としたものになりまし
た。テキストを使用して学んでいくうちに、今までの「？」が「！」にかわり、理解が深まった
と自分では感じています。また今回文法中心に学んだことで、昨年までやってきた会話・
発話の大切さも再認識しました。
今年はスペイン語圏の研修員がいませんが、講座が７月で終わってしまいとても残念で
す。テキストの続きや会話をもっともっと学びたいので、ぜひ講座の再開をお願いします!!
When I heard that this year's Spanish classes would begin on June 17, I
was very excited. The reason is that until last year classes began at the
end of July, and the JICA participants would often arrive in town before
I was able to have simple conversations in Spanish.
At the same time, last year's course contents shifted from conversation
to a focus on grammar. While learning from a textbook, I feel that my
questions were answered and that I developed a deeper understanding
of the language. Once again I came to recognize the importance of my
conversation classes by studying grammar.
This year there are no JICA participants from Spanish-speaking
countries, and classes ended in July, which is a shame. I sincerely hope
that classes will restart because I'd love to continue studying the
Spanish language.
