From the ancestral temple to the Village temple: From the regional rural China to see the revival of folk beliefs -A Case Study on the Li’s Ancestral Temple in Guyi Village, Wuan City, Hebei Province- BAI Songqiang Kyushu University Abstract Since the Reform and Opening up in China, especially since the 1990s, in order to establish a national cultural symbol system, the Chinese government has carried out large scale activities for the protection of intangible cultural heritage with traditional culture as the representative. Under this background, the author, by studying the case of the Li’s Ancestral Temple transferring from a private temple of the Li’s to a communal temple worshiped by the whole village, will investigate the possible factors which cause this transition. Thereby, it comes to the conclusion that the folk beliefs, as one type of traditional culture and originally labeled superstition, though it hasn’t been recognized by the nation as a religious phenomenon, might be recreated and revitalized with the help of other forms in case of integration of multiple factors.
