At the end of 2014, various news agencies published the results of an interesting new
survey into renewable energy ─ power which comes from natural sources such as
sunlight, wind and water. The results suggest that renewable means of generating
energy are becoming more and more widespread. In particular, the results highlight

how wind and solar power have emerged as the major sources of renewable energy.
Importantly, they also highlight how renewable energy now has almost the same“energy
capacity”(the amount of energy that can be produced) as nuclear energy, the main form
of non-renewable energy.
The findings, as displayed in Figure 1, show clearly the new trends. Overall, energy

capacity has increased for all forms of power production. While nuclear power capacity
increased by around 50 gigawatts between 1990 and 2013, however, this growth has
slowed significantly since its boom period in the 1970s and 1980s. On the other hand,
forms of renewable energy production became more widespread at the end of the 20th
century and the graph shows the rapid increase in capacity of two of these forms: wind

and solar power. Although the energy capacity of wind and solar power has increased at
the same rate in recent years, wind power, which began to be used as a source of power
in the 1980s, currently generates twice as much energy as solar power, which wasn’
t
developed until the mid-1990s. The rapid rise in importance of these two kinds of
renewable energy illustrates clearly the boom that has taken place in renewable power

over the last ten years. This increase contrasts with the lack of growth in nuclear power
production.
This lack of growth can be explained as being the result of the decline in the number
of nuclear power stations being built. This decline in power station construction is due to
the rise of commercial interest in renewable energy sources, and this commercial

interest has been caused by many social and economic factors. Concerns about global
warming and climate change, coupled with the high price of oil, have led to new
government policies which support renewable energy.
Many countries are now
recognizing the importance of developing renewable energy sources, and three
countries, such as Japan, China and Germany, now generate more power from
renewables than nuclear power. Engineers in countries such as these have recently been
focusing on the development of solar technology. Although wind power generation is
increasing in use, as the rising energy capacity shows, solar energy is now seen by many
to have more advantages. The use of solar power looks set to increase more rapidly in
future, and there are many possible explanations for this.

Florida, a place they had visited on holiday every February, and threw it out into the sea.
Lastly, she told me that the money was for a phone call to let her know where he was.

At the end of 2014, various news agencies published the results of an interesting new
survey into renewable energy ─ power which comes from natural sources such as
sunlight, wind and water. The results suggest that renewable means of generating energy
are becoming more and more widespread. In particular, the results highlight how wind
and solar power have emerged as the major sources of renewable energy. Importantly,
they also highlight how renewable energy now has almost the same“energy capacity”
（the amount of energy that can be produced）as nuclear energy, the main form of nonrenewable energy.
The findings, as displayed in Figure 1, show clearly the new trends. Overall, energy
capacity has increased for all forms of power production. While nuclear power capacity
increased by around 50 gigawatts between 1990 and 2013, however, this growth has
slowed significantly since its boom period in the 1970s and 1980s. On the other hand,
forms of renewable energy production became more widespread at the end of the 20th
century and the graph shows the rapid increase in capacity of two of these forms: wind
and solar power. Although the energy capacity of wind and solar power has increased at
the same rate in recent years, wind power, which began to be used as a source of power
in the 1980s, currently generates twice as much energy as solar power, which wasn’
t
developed until the mid-1990s. The rapid rise in importance of these two kinds of
renewable energy illustrates clearly the boom that has taken place in renewable power

yourself and take an initiative to complete online courses.
⑸　There are some other problems that MOOC learners have to deal with. One is the
limited interaction with professors. With thousands of people often taking part in an
online course, it’
s impossible for the professors to give each student individual support
and feedback. Secondly, MOOCs do not offer formal qualifications and are usually
considered less valuable than formal on-campus programs. A certificate proves your
completion of MOOCs, but it doesn’
t hold the same value as a formal degree. Also, the
volume of course materials may seem huge and interaction with thousands of
participants in the forums may be confusing ─ you have to be careful not to get lost in
the sea of information.
⑹　It is still unclear whether or not MOOCs present a sustainable business model for
schools. However, it is true that colleges and universities can reach a far greater
number of people throughout the world, and benefit from such a global network in
many ways. Only six years have passed since their birth and MOOCs are still going
through dynamic changes. In addition to the major MOOC providers, new ones are
being created to offer more courses. Some providers charge fees for their course
materials or extra services and others are shifting their focus to corporate training
programs. We have good reasons to predict that MOOCs will play a larger role in the
future as an alternative method of sharing knowledge.
