What was your starting point this season?
The bravery and way of life of those famous Generals from the past.

What would you say is your signature look/item?
The“Tokiori” dress made from an original fabric Araisara developed, which is a combination of traditional
and modern fabric. And what we call our “99-style” garment, which allows a wearer to wear the piece
in various styles.

Which designers or eras in fashion have influenced you the most?
I’m deeply touched by centuries of long-lasting craftsmanship as well as the warm feeling of
handmade goods. These elements have influenced my design more so than those concepts
from other designers.

“Paper-cut” art from China. I have been collecting them since my student years.
Even the process of seeing them made is a beautiful one.

The current economic situation has been a great influence on my work, as has the work German
industrial designer Dieter Rams.

Where do you look for inspiration outside of fashion?
My source of inspiration outside of fashion mainly comes from interior design, factories and,
again, the economy.

１. 今シーズンのコレクションの原点となっているものは何ですか？
今シーズンは 生きる ということや 死ぬ ということをコレクションの中で表現しました。

子供のころに『チロヌップのきつね』
という絵本を読んだ時に、初めて死を意識しました。
お話も悲しくて、せつなくて、
自分も不安になって一晩中泣きじゃくっていました。
今でも、死というものは怖いものです。愛する人がいなくなるのはとても悲しい。
今、
まわりに居る人にいつか会えなくなると考えるのはとても辛い。
私は楽しく美しい洋服を表現することが多いのですが、今回は敢えて、そういった ことにフォーカスを当てました。
しかし、表現方法としては、否定的な事柄ではなく、肯定的に 生きる 、生きている ということを伝えようと
思いました。
どういった内容になっているかご覧いただけると幸いです。
What was your starting point this season?
This season’s collection was born out of my desire to express the philosophy of life and death.
When I was a kid, I read a book called “Chironuppu no Kitsune”, and that was the first time I learned
about death. I was so affected by the sad story that I curled up and cried the entire night.
I am still frightened by the thought of death – even nowadays. I cannot imagine losing loved
ones. That’s why my clothing design has so far been based on cheerful thoughts and beautiful
things. But this season, I decided to venture out and try something different.
But rather than express my idea through negativity, I brought out positive thoughts,
focusing on the concept of living, what it is to live. I sincerely hope others will feel my
positive thoughts when viewing my collection.

My source of inspiration outside of fashion comes from anything I’m interested in, including
paintings, novels, history, life stories of others, sounds and imagination.

What was your starting point this season?
As you can see from the title “NEO-FLAPPER”, this season’s collection idea was based on the flapper, a
group of new-generation ladies who think-outside-of-the-box. What is femininity? What is masculinity?
Does wearing sexy dress make you more like a woman? On the contrary, does wearing pants make you
more like a man?
IN-PROCESS by HALL OHARA develops a contemporary flapper theme by expressing our own
interpretation of femininity and female empowerment through our work.

What would you say is your signature look/item?
Kimono sleeves, one-piece styles with relaxed silhouettes, and items with asymmetric elements.

The original concept for each look can be traced back to the brand’s motto, “capturing the energy of a
garment that is in the process of being made.” For example, clothes from the early stages of production
have more intriguing energy than that of completed items. We carry that energy over to final stage of
production to create sophisticated street style clothing, which is our signature look.

コレクションのタイトルは「Classical Equilibrium―Leftover（古典との調和、そしてレフトオーバー）」
です。
Equilibrium とは、
アフリカの感性をヨーロッパの布地を使って表現することを意味します。
このコレクションは、
ヨーロッパのファッションを粋に着こなしながらもアフリカ人としてのアイデンティティと現実を見失っていない
サプールと呼ばれるアフリカの伊達男たちに大きく影響されています。Leftover とは、余った生地や余った
アイテム、古着などを用いてファッションやアートを生み出すことです。
What was your starting point this season?
Our Collection is entitled “Classical Equilibrium – Leftover”.
“Equilibrium” means African ideas in European fabrics. We were influenced this season by African dandies
(Sapeurs). They decorate their bodies with European garments, sometimes leftovers, but their cultural
identities remain African. “Leftover” is about making fashion or art with leftovers – leftover fabrics, leftover
equipment, used clothes, etc.

What would you say is your signature look/item?
We would not define our signature look as an object or a piece of cloth, but rather as a concept – it’s more
about freedom of thought and a search for individuality.

Which designers or eras in fashion have influenced you the most?
We are influenced by Japanese and British fashion, particularly from those artists who approach fashion not
only as a source of income, but as art, as a communication tool. We love the work of Yohji Yamamoto, Tokio
Kumagai, Comme des Garçons, Alexander Mcqueen, John Galliano, Oswald Boateng, Paul Smith, etc.
We also think about ‘Sankofa’, the African concept of a bird that flies very high at high speed, but never
forgets to look back. However much we wish to take fashion forward, we cannot forget our sources, our
origin, our past.

Our inspiration comes from positive energies that influence human behavior. We believe the art of
fashion can be a means to help people attain self-development. Art helps humans find their inner
selves and attain freedom.

常に直接的なインスピレーションを使用することはないのですが、今シーズンは、
『イントゥ・ザ・ワイルド』や

What was your starting point this season?
There usually isn’t a clear inspiration to my design. However, this season I’ve drawn inspiration from road
movies such as Into the Wild and Midnight Run. I wanted to create a picturesque collection that would allow
the viewer to see beautiful sceneries through my design.
