China and Korea. (すばらしかったです。カナダの生徒だけ

A: We took Foods, Math, Communication Technology, P.E. (Physical Education), Social Studies,

Q: How’s your relationship with your host family?
(ホストファミリーとの関係はどうでしたか?)
A: They were so kind to me; they took me out to the movies,

slowly in English, and sometimes explained things to me so many
times so I could understand them. We watched TV together, and
enjoyed talking with each other after dinner.

Looking forward to my future
Hello everyone!! My name is Ayane Takeishi. I’m a second grade student of Tokiwa university
high school.
Today, I’m here to talk about my dream of the future.
I have a lot of things I want to try after I graduate from university.
First, let me introduce my best dream. Since I was in elementary school, I have wanted to be a
kindergarten teacher. I like kids very much, and I also had an inspirational homeroom teacher. This
is why I have this dream. When I visited a kindergarten on work experience at junior high school, I
realized that taking care of children all day is not just fun and games, but is hard and challenging
work, both mentally and physically. However, the time I spent helping in a kindergarten provided
me with many precious memories and experiences, which have stayed with me since that day.
Sometimes, my mother tells me about her own experiences and the difficulty of this job, as she
worked as a teacher before. She told me that, it is important to sympathize with other people’s
feelings, and maintain a positive attitude even though I may be exhausted. Luckily, my father and
grandfather run a “karate” training school, I can learn from training with the students. Every
summer at my father’s “karate” training camp, I help instruct the students. This gives me
valuable insight into how to teach and how to bring out the best in everyone. However, by
spending time outside of class with the students, I am able to develop strong relationships with
the children, and we spend many happy hours together playing games, doing fireworks and seeing
the true personalities of the children shine through.
Have you heard of the job “Child Life Specialist” or “CLS” for short?
I learned about its existence from a TV program about two years ago. In the interview, a woman
working as a CLS answered, “I think it’s a challenging job, although it’s very hard!”.
This is a profession which helps improve children’s wellbeing in their fight against disease in
the unfamiliar conditions of hospital life. CLS workers explain complex medical procedures by
using models or toy medical devices and go to the operating room with the child who may be afraid
of the operation. They are an important bridge between the medical staff and the children’s
family.
In America, just one pediatrics department employs more than 40 Child-Life-Specialists,
whereas there are only 17 such people in the whole of Japan. This is demanding work, and carries
with it a great responsibility. However, I’m still very interested in this rewarding job. I haven’t told
my parents of this ambition yet, because in order to obtain the necessary qualifications, I will have
to study abroad and it is hard for my parents to afford this. I only wish that there were such a
place where I could study toward this occupation in Japan!
My other dreams are joining “the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers”, working at a
nursing house, or a school for physically and mentally disabled children and other related
community work. My only regret is that there is so much that I want to do, but I only have one
lifetime in which to try to fulfill all these dreams!!
Who will I be in the future, and who will be there to inspire me? I’m looking forward to my
future!!
Thank you.
