自分だけの歌舞伎より、
次の世代に残せる歌舞伎を選択したい
I intend to choose Kabuki that can be left to the next generation,
rather than that which simply represents myself.

京都江戸東京博物館では、
20 年前の開館セレモニーの
時に、父（12 代目市川團十郎）と
18 代目中村勘三郎（当時は 5 代目
さんばそう
中村勘九郎）さんとともに三番叟
を踊った記憶があります。
都内で歌舞伎が見られる場所は、
歌舞伎座、新橋演舞場、国立劇場、
浅草公会堂など多数ありますが、
歌舞伎を見る人口はほぼ決まって
います。そこで、これまで歌舞伎を
見たことがない方、日本人として生
まれていながら日本の古典を見た
東京都江戸東京博物館、5 階常設展示室にて
日本の伝統芸能である歌舞伎。
見たことがない方に、見てほしい

今から 300 年以上前、豪快な演技で荒事を創始した初代市川團十郎。
江戸歌舞伎を代表するこの大名跡は、歌舞伎十八番というお家芸とともに現代まで
受け継がれています。その継承者であり、次世代の歌舞伎を担う市川海老蔵さんに、
東京都江戸東京博物館の常設展示を見ていただきながら、
歌舞伎に関する様々な取り組みについてお話をうかがいました。

京スカイツリーができた後、ただの鉄の塊になってからが好

Born as the eldest son of Ichikawa Ebizo X (later
Ichikawa Danjuro XII) in 1977. Ebizo made his
debut in 1983, performing as“Harumiya”in
“The Tale of Genji (Genji Monogatari)”at the
Kabuki-za. In 1985, he took the name Ichikawa
Shinnosuke V II. In 20 04, he took the name
Ichikawa Ebizo XI. The stages of his activity
wer e n o t limi t e d w i t hin J a p a n a s h e a l s o
conducted overseas performances. In 2007, he
was awarded the Order of France, L'Ordre des
Arts et des Lettres (Chevalier). He is energetic in
developing his activities including the revival of
“The Kabuki Eighteen (Kabuki Juhachiban)”and
the creation of new Kabuki plays. The ﬁlm“Ask

Kabuki. Along the way from the Kaminarimon Gate through
Nakamise (a passage with shops lining both sides) to the Senso-ji

Edward Sylvester Morse, his day by day with kindhearted people

大森貝塚の発見者として名高いエドワード・モース。江戸から明治にか
けて日本に滞在していた彼は、当時の日本人の精神や生活・風景に感
動し、日本の民具や写真などを収集しました。本展ではアメリカのピー
ボディ・エセックス博物館とボストン美術館に納められているそれらの
コレクションを一挙公開。モースの温かな眼差しを通して、江戸と明
治の狭間を生きた庶民たちの暮らしと心を展観します。
Edward Morse is well-known for discovering the Omori shell mound. Living in Japan in the
Edo and Meiji periods, he collected Japanese folk-craft items and photographs, as he had
become inspired by Japan’
s landscapes and the Japanese people’
s spirit and lifestyle.

This exhibition features most of his collected items that are housed in the Peabody Essex
Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in the United States. They reveal the lives of

江戸東京たてもの園の前身、武蔵野郷土館は1954（昭和29）年1月に開
館しました。発掘調査などで資料を収集しながら、武蔵野の歴史と民
俗に関する展示を行いました。収蔵資料のなかには、武蔵野郷土館の
前身、武蔵野博物館（井の頭自然文化園）や戦前、有栖川宮記念公
園内にあった東京郷土資料陳列館から引き継いだものもあります。本
展では武蔵野の歴史を物語る考古・歴史・民俗資料を展示するほか、
武蔵野郷土館のなりたちやあゆみも紹介します。
The Musashino Folklore Museum, the predecessor of the Edo Tokyo Architectural Museum,
opened in January 1954. The museum held exhibitions on the history and folklore of the
Musashino area, while it also collected documents by conducting excavations and other
research. The documents include items provided by the Musashino Museum (the Inokashira
Park Zoo), the predecessor of the Musashino Folklore Museum, as well as items from the
Tokyo Folklore Document Display Hall, which was located in Arisugawanomiya Memorial
Park. This exhibition will present archeological, historical and folkloric documents

将来性のある作家を発掘し、新しい創造活動の場として開催する「日本
の新進作家」展。12 回目となる今回は、世界と向かい合う行為を象徴
する「路上」という場所に焦点をあてます。大森克己、糸崎公朗、鍛治
谷直記、林ナツミ、津田隆志の 5 人の写真家・美術家による作品は、

上」から浮かび上がる今という時代を見つめ直し、見る者の世界観やも
のの見方、感じ方を変えるきっかけとなるでしょう。
Japanese Contemporary Photography is a series held annually with the aim of finding
promising photographers and to support their challenging creative spirit toward the
possibilities of photography. The 12th exhibition focuses on“on the road”that symbolizes
movements facing the world. Works by the five photographers/artists can offer the
audience the chance to re-evaluate the current era emerging through“the road,”and can

生涯アマチュア精神を貫き、撮ることを純粋に楽しんだ植田正治とジャック・
アンリ・ラルティーグ。本展では、ジャック・アンリ・ラルティーグ財団との
共同企画により、ラルティーグが遺した豊富なコレクションと、東京都写真
美術館が収集した植田のコレクションから選りすぐりの約 160 点を紹介。同
時代の作品の中でも独特で時代性を捉えていた、彼らの近代写真の成熟期
における業績を振り返ります。
Ueda Shoji and Jacques Henri Lartigue derived pure enjoyment from photography throughout
their lives. As a collaborative project with the Jacques Henri Lartigue Foundation (Association
des Aims de Jacques Henri Lartigue), some 160 works from a rich collection left by Lartigue and
Ueda’
s works, collected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, will be exhibited.
The exhibition will trace the achievements of the two photographers, who captured scenes in
their own distinctive styles during the maturation period of modern photography.

Joseph Mallord William Turner has been described as Britain’
s most important painter. This
exhibition features about 110 pieces, including more than 30 masterpieces of oils on loan from
the Tate Gallery, London, which is proud of having the world’
s largest collection of his works,
including watercolors and sketch books. His glorious trajectory is traced, from his study works
created in his teens, to a number of representative works from his golden age when he searched
out new expressions, to his 70s when his career peaked.

この野外彫刻に注目！
都美の顔としてもおなじみの
“球体”
の野外彫刻は、
彫刻家の井上武吉による作品で、
正式名称は《my sky hole 85-2 光と影》
。記念撮影でも人気のスポットの一つです。
敷地内では 9 つの野外彫刻めぐりも楽しめます。
This stainless steel sphere located in front of the museum building was created by the Japanese sculptor
Bukichi Inoue. Its title is“my sky hole 85-2 light and shadow.”The work is one of the most popular spots
in the vicinity for taking photos. There are nine pieces of sculpture in the open-air space to be enjoyed.

The museum is preparing to publish its museum news. When the museum opened, it had published up to the

最盛期には東京 23 区内を縦横無人に 41 系統も
走っていたという路面電車。自動車の増加などの理由
により徐々にその数が減ってゆき、東京都の経営とし
て現存する唯一の線が都電荒川線だ。普段見慣れな
いたった一両だけのレトロな車両とこじんまりとしたそ
れぞれの停留所は、なんともフォトジェニック。カメラ
と一日乗車券を片手に早稲田か
ら終点の三ノ輪橋まで、遠足気
分で乗ってみることにした。
平日の昼間だというのに車内
は意外と混んでいる。駅間が短
く、しかも本数が比較的多いの
で、気になる景色があったら次の
駅で降り、ちょっとプラプラしな
がら撮って、また来た電車に飛
び乗るなんてことも気軽にでき
ちゃう。なんて便利なの！深く掘
られた地下鉄に乗るために遥か
下まで階段を降りるのが当たり
前になっている今だから、そんな
ことがとっても新鮮だ。降りたり
乗ったりを繰り返し、終点の三ノ輪橋へ。荒川線と平
行している商店街がこれまた下町感たっぷり。お惣菜
パンも野菜も、安い！「まだ撮影したいし！」と、
いろいろ買って帰りたい気持ちを抑え次の駅まで歩い
て行くと、ホームの傍らにごっそり置いてあるのは「み
んなの雨傘」。ご自由にどうぞ、でもちゃんと返してねっ
て。無人駅にこういう優しさ。荒川線沿線に暮らして
Apparently at their peak, streetcars used to be in operation on
as many as 41 routes, across 23-ku in Tokyo. Due to the spread
of automobiles and for other reasons, the number of streetcars
gradually decreased. Presently, the Toden Arakawa Line is the
only existing streetcar line operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan
Government. Its train carriage has a nostalgic look consisting of
only one carriage, which is unfamiliar to us in our daily lives, and
each stop is built in a compact style –
which is really photogenic. I decided to take
a ride on the streetcar from Waseda to the
final stop, Minowabashi, with a one-day
ticket and a camera in my hand, as though I
was going on a school ﬁeld trip.
Since the distance between each station
is short and it runs relatively frequently,
using the train is easy and casual – for
instance, if I ﬁnd a landscape that interests
me, I can just get off at the next station and
take photographs as I wander around, and
then jump on the next train again. What a
handy train it is! After I enjoyed getting off
and on several times, I arrived at the ﬁnal
station, Minowabashi. The local shopping
area lined parallel to the Arakawa Line has
a rich downtown atmosphere. I managed
to resist the temptation to purchase many things from there and
walked towards the next station. When I arrived at the station, I
noticed a bunch of umbrellas labeled“Everyone’
s umbrellas,”
placed at the side of the platform. It implies that you can,“feel
free to use these umbrellas but please don’
t forget to return them
later,”which is wonderful kindness at a station with no station
staff. This experience has made me feel like living in a town along
the Arakawa Line.

Toei Streetcar (Toden) Arakawa Line
The Arakawa Line commenced service in 1974 as a streetcar,
which runs on a track laid on the street. It is still loved as a Tokyoite
method of transport. It operates the total length of 12.21 km from
Minowabashi to Waseda that takes approximately 50 minutes. In
order to enjoy the stopovers, it is recommended to get a Toden Oneday Ticket (adult ¥400, child ¥200), which allows you unlimited use
of the Toden Arakawa Line for one day.
