と初めてお会い出来、感激しました．閉
会式の翌日は一校一国で真和志小学校
を訪ね、三組の６年生と交流しました．生
徒達は皆イキイキとし、質問の豊富さは
グスーヨ　チューウガナビラ！
ウチナーンチュタイカイヤデージチビラー 積極的な関心を示してました．
このように色々なプロジェクトに参加し、
サタイビーン。
（お久しぶりです．　うちなーんちゅたい 電子メールでお世話になった方々にも直
接ご挨拶が叶い最高の里帰りでした。　かいはとても素晴らしかったですよ））

早いもので11月も半ばを過ぎ、年末も間 ルフェステバルの準備と忙しかったが、

インターナショナル　フェステバル
インターナショナルフェステバ ル は
11月2日〜5日、4日間開催された．初
日と二日目の午前中は各学校の小、
中、高 校 生の見 学で、生 徒 参 加 数は
5800名もあった．生徒達は「ハジチ」の
入れ墨と那覇大綱引きに興味深く見入
っていた．パスポートには守礼の門の
判子を押し沖縄訪問の証明とした．ウ
チナーンチュ大会で、県庁より土産に
持参した貴重なDVD を一日中流し、人
々の足を止めた．
「伝統と改革」カルチャーブースのテ
ーマで．国際交流課、県立博物館、仲座
巌の協力で、資料を収集し、展示場狭
しと並べた残念にだったのは、沖縄の
長寿、EMと珊瑚のカルシュウムの資料
を展示しなかった事だ．
最終日の日曜日は流舞（前の浜）、子供
エイサー（チムガナサ　グループ）、小
林流空手の演舞に大喝采を受けた．
会員の冨美子さんが、持参した折り紙
は二日目には売れ尽くし、マサコさん
が、夜中まで頑張り作成したのを翌日

ドーネーションした．
イベントが無事成功、終了したのは準
備段階からボレンテアでブースをお手

お疲れさまでした．
このように会員皆が助け合いインデイ
アナ沖縄県人会を支えているので、益
々発展して行くと確信を得た．

International
Festival 2006
2006 Culture booth display was “Tradition &
Innovation”. We were able to collect the most
material from Okinawa prefecture Museum,
and Iwao Nakaza. Many people were interested in the Okinawan culture and were surprised to see the how modernize the islands
have become since WWII. If you Missed the
International Festival this year mark your calendar’s for the International Festival in 2007.
Nov. 15-18, 2007.
A sincere thanks to all participants and volunteers whose support made the festival a
fun and exciting success.

World Wide Uchinanchu Festival
I was one of fortunate to be part of World Uchinchu Festival
and that was one of best events I have ever attended. Kokusai street was packed by people, who encouraged everyone
with ”Welcome home” the night before the parade. The
opening ceremony was incredible. Each counties flag was
carried to the stage, and each countries name was called,
everyone stood up and proudly shouted. It was a biggest
response when they called the United States. Hawaii alone,
had 2000 people arrive from a charter plane.
At the stage there were Okinawan dances, Eisa and songs.
Jake Skillman won second place in Project Esperanza for
the best ideas and proposals for maintaining the Uchinanchu
Network. At the closing ceremony, there were 400 students
and young adult’s. They all gave powerful performance’s
and were so joyful. I felt that the Okinawan culture would
never fade away because we all knew the importance of the
festival’s goal, which is educating younger generatins to
pass on the Uchinanchu identity and network.
This year’s attendance was only 11 people from Indiana. I
hope to encourage more members and the younger generation to participate in the next Uchinanchu Festival.

One School One Country
On October 16, Tomiko and I were invited to the
Mawashi Elementary School for One School
one Country.
We visited three classes of 6 grader’s and discussed life in other countries. First they were
shy to ask us in English, but when the teacher
asked them what we were talking about in English, many hands wee rased and answered.

It was fun to talk to students. Each class
brought in odaiko(big drum) and entertained us
with Eisa-. We joined together for lunch.
Pricipal and teachers said, students would like to
learn more about world and possibly exchange
e-mail. They want to know about the world and
children of diverse cultures and education.
I promised the pricipal that I will help find a sister school.

一校一国のイベントで、冨美子さんと共に
真和志小学校に招待され、10月16日、
６
年生の3クラスを訪ねた．英語での自己紹
介後、
先生が
「わかりましたか」
と聞くと、
５、
６人の手が上がり、思い思いの返事があっ
た。　生徒達はのびのびと育っていると感
じた．和気あいあいに会話を楽しんだ後、
大太鼓とパーランクーのエイサーで歓迎さ
れた．
ランチタイムで、
当番の生徒達が準備
し、生徒達と昼食を共に楽しんだ．

メニューは健康食で、羨ましく思
った．
今回、
ウチナーンチュ大会にて、一校一国
のプログラムが組まれ、真和志小学校の前
田真利先生と連絡、予定を組んだ．
山盛淳子校長、桃原教育部長は小学校に
て、英語教育を推進しているので、一校一
国のプログラムは生徒に刺激になると喜ん
でおられた．生徒達の質問は多く、世界に
目を向け、異文化に興味を示しイキイキと
学んでいる．私たちの訪問が期待に応えら
れたか自信はないが、
インデイアナ州内に
姉妹校を探し、交流が出来るように勤める
事を約束した．

60年代の方はオバーさんの手の平に入れ墨があったのに見覚えがあると
思います．
なぜウチナー女性が入れ墨をしたかご存知ですか？　＊　身分の高い女性のおしゃれ
＊　他国に連れて行かれないため
娘達の手甲には水草の花のように青色の美しいハジチが咲きほこり、
男達
の目をひいた。。。
と言う．　適齢期の娘たちの両手の手甲にハジチ
（針突）
と称する入れ墨をする習慣があった．
かっては沖縄の女性達の象徴であっ
たが、明治政府の禁止令によって廃止された．　（南島入墨考』

日本女性のお歯黒と同じで、結婚するとハジチをすると思ってましたが若い
人のおしゃれと知り, 今若い世代に流行している入れ墨．昔の沖縄女性の
風習だったのに驚いた．

うちなーぐち辞典
「アーサ」
「アオサ」
という海草の一種。沖縄の海岸の岩にへばりついている
海草だ。
これをひとつひとつ取って水洗いしたものを太陽に干す。　この
「あーさ」
は水で戻して味噌汁の具にする。　白味噌仕立てにし
て味醂を加えると味いが増す．澄まし汁仕立てにしても美味い。
Naha Great Tug-of-War
Various dances and traditional performing arts were presented in the 3 day event which also including Eisa
dance’s, “Bo-Jutsu” (an Okinawan martial art using a staff), “Yotsudake” on Kokusai Street. The great Tug-ofWar, a grand celebratory event from the Ryukyu Kingdom era with over 350 years of history, was held on the second day. The rope used in the event is recognized as the biggest handmade rope in the world. Tens of thousands
of people gather regardless of age, sex or nationality, and divided into teams of east and west. When the contest
begins they pull together as one to the blaring sounds and rhythm of gongs and drums, with the drowning sounds
of thousands of people cheering and chanting their teams along.

一本の大綱から左右に小綱が、
何本もついている．
小綱を皆で引くのですが、
その小綱も、
普通の綱引
きの綱より太く重い．
勝負終了後は参加者、見学者
は、
それぞれ綱を切り取って持ち帰れる．　綱を飾
っておくと、
ご利益があるそうです．
私も数本持ち帰
りました．
