Note: If you choose a default messaging app other than Messages (for example, Google Hangouts or Messaging Plus), you will not be able to use the standard Messages app unless you restore it as the default messaging app.
Sounds and Notifications Settings
The Sounds and notifications settings menu lets you control your phone’s audio, from ringtones and alerts to tap tones and notifications.
Sounds and Notifications Settings Overview
The sounds and notifications settings menu allows you to configure the following options:
Sound Setting
Description
Sound mode
Set the sound mode for the phone (Sound, Vibrate, or Mute).
Volume
Set volume for ringtones, media, system features, etc.

Description
Ringtones and sounds
Set your ringtones and notification sounds for your phone, apps, keypad, and other features.
Vibrations
Configure vibration pattern, feedback, and other settings.
Sound quality and
effects
Set sound quality and sound effects for your phone.
Do not disturb
Configure the Do not disturb feature to mute calls and alerts at will or on a schedule, as well as set exceptions.
Notifications on lock
screen
Set a tone for default phone notifications.
App notifications
Configure notifications for apps installed on your phone.
LED indicator
Toggle the LED indicator light for notifications.
Sound Mode
You can switch between sound modes, while preserving the individual sound settings you’ve made.
Note: Sound modes are also available from the Device options menu. Press and hold the Power
key, and then choose Mute, Vibrate, or Sound from the Device options.
1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Sounds and notifications
.
2. Tap Sound mode, and then choose a mode:
l Sound: Your phone uses the sounds, vibrations, and volume levels you’ve chosen in Sound settings for notifications and alerts.
l Vibrate: Your phone vibrates for notifications and alerts. This uses the Vibration intensity Settings

you choose in Sound settings.
l Mute: Your phone plays no sounds or vibrations. Onscreen reminders will still occur.
Volume
Set the system volume level, and set default volume for call ringtones, notifications, and other media.
Note: You can also set System volume from the Home screen by pressing the Volume key.
1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Sounds and notifications

2. Tap Volume and then drag the sliders to set the default volume for:

Ringtones and Sounds
Choose a ringtone for incoming calls.

l Default notification sound: Choose a default sound for notifications.
l Messages: Tones play and/or the phone vibrates when new messages arrives.
l Calendar: Tones play and/or the phone vibrates to remind you of events.
l Email: Tones play and/or the phone vibrates when new emails arrives.
l Touch sounds: Tones play when you tap the screen to make selections.
l Dialing keypad tone: Tones play when you tap keys on the phone keypad.
l Screen lock sounds: Tones play when you tap the screen to lock or unlock it.
l Emergency tone: Tones play and/or the phone vibrates for alerts.
l Keyboard sound: Tones play when you tap the keyboard.
Vibrations
Choose vibrations to play for notifications, such as for incoming calls, new messages, and event reminders.
1. From a Home screen, tap Apps Settings
> Settings > Sounds and notifications

2. Tap Vibrations for options:
l Vibration intensity: Choose the intensity of vibrations.
l Vibration pattern. Select a vibration pattern, or create a new one.
l Vibrate when ringing: The phone vibrates when ringing.
l Vibration feedback: The phone vibrates when soft keys are tapped and for certain software actions. l Keyboard vibration: The phone vibrates when you tap the keyboard.
Sound Quality and Effects
Edit sound quality and effects.
1. From a Home screen, tap Apps Settings
> Settings > Sounds and notifications

2. Tap Sound quality and effects for options: l Adapt Sound: Find the best sound quality for you and use it during calls and while playing music or videos.
l SoundAlive+: Recreate the effect of rich surround sound.
l TubeAmp: Simulate the soft timbre of a tube amplifier.
Notifications
Choose a sound for notifications, such as for new messages and event reminders.
1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Sounds and notifications
