TKU G RADUATES N AMED F AVORITE AMONG P RIVATE U NIVERSITIES
Cheers magazine, published last Thursday,
revealed the results of a survey of the top 1,000
businesses’ favorite college graduates. TKU was
ranked #8 among all public and private universities.
Cheers magazine has been conducting this survey
for a decade, beginning in 1997. This year is the
9th year that TKU graduates have been voted
“businesses’ favorite” among private universities.
Cheers magazine mailed a total of 1,600
questionnaires to 1,600 companies; 370 of them
were returned, resulting in a return rate of 23.13%.
The survey showed that National Cheng Kung
University was ranked #1 in overall performance,
the 10th time successfully holding its top position
while National Taiwan University prevailed
over any other universities in leadership and
internationalization. TKU, on the other hand, was
ranked #1 of all private universities, its ninth year
in a row.
The editor of Cheers magazine, Ms. Wonyu Wu, said: “Recently the development of private
universities is getting more and more attention.
The exceptional performance of TKU particularly
is witness to this.” Right now, it is the job-hunting
season, and TKU’s outstanding performance will
definitely give this year’s graduates a boost.
Furthermore, TKU has advanced to the
top three “finance business’ favorite for college
graduates,” second only to National Chengchi
University, and National Taiwan University, in
traditional manufacture industries, technology,
service, and finance. This shows that both the
College of Business and College of Management
of TKU are receiving more and more attention.
Moreover, TKU remains in the top ten as fovorite
of other industries, outperforming many resourcerich public universities.
TKU president Dr. Flora C. I. Chang
said that she was satisfied with the alumni’s
performance, as reflected in the survey. There
are currently 11,000 students in the College of
Business and College of Management, whose
alumni’s employment rate is also good. In the
future, TKU will put even more emphasis on the
development of professional skills.
The survey also analyzed each company’s
preference for college graduates, and found that
business administrators identified the strengths
of TKU graduates as teamwork (ranked #4 of all
universities), stability and resistance to pressure
(ranked #6), willingness to learn and potential
(ranked #7), and creativity (ranked #7).
President Chang indicated that the seven
criteria chosen by Cheers are the shared needs of
businesses. She hoped that TKU students would
work on the three areas in which they should

skills, and problem-solving abilities. President
Chang also hoped that students would broaden their
horizons: “Even if you have never been abroad, you
still need to develop a global view.”
At the press conference hosted by Cheers
magazine, TKU vice-president, Dr. Bo-yuan
Kao was asked to share his thoughts. “This is an
honor shared by all TKU’s alumni. It is a
recognition of our alumni’s ability,” said Dr. Kao.
In the future, TKU should stress students’
performance in the areas of foreign language
proficiency. Mr. Gan-tson Kuo, CEO special
assistant of Media Tek Inc., said: “TKU has a
liberal academic tradition. Students should learn
to cultivate professional skills and a global view,
thus making themselves more competitive in the
job market.”

One More Sister University Agrees to Dual Degrees
President Koichi Ikeda
of Nagasaki University of
Foreign Studies (NUFS) visited
Tamkang University on March
24th to sign a memorandum for
further academic exchange with
Tamkang University.
NUFS, following
University of Jean Moulin,
Lyon 3, Curtin University of
Technology, and University
of Paris-Sorbonne (UPS), has
become the fourth university to
establish academic cooperation
w i t h T K U i n o ff e r i n g d u a l
degrees. Up to now, Deng Jiajun, a graduate of the French
Department of TKU, has
obtained a dual master’s degree
from UJM, Lyon 3. Three more
students are currently studying
there in persuit of dual degrees
in French literature. A Ph.D.
student is working on his dual
doctoral degree at UPS.
President Ikeda
remarked that TKU, in terms of
structure and history, is like a big
ship while NUFS is like a small
boat. “Complete capabilities are
needed for any size of ship,” as
he expressed his expectation for
a solid cooperation with TKU on
an equal footing.

u n i v e r s i t y, s p e c i a l i z e s i n
teaching foreign languages.
It has seven departments:
American English, British
English, German, French,
Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.
In 2004, Prof. Horng-jihn Chang,
former president of TKU,
visited the school and signed an
academic exchange agreement.
Last year, upon her visit to
NUFS, President Flora Chia-I
Chang stressed in particular the
significance of cooperation on
dual degrees.

PUESTO ENTRE UNIVERSIDADES

La Universidad Tamkang obtuvo el
primer puesto entre las universidades
privadas de la isla, por noveno año
consecutivo, en el sondeo realizado
entre las empresas señeras de
Taiwán, por la revista “Cheers”, con
lo que se confirma la preferencia
del empresariado taiwanés por los
graduados de Tamkang.
En el sondeo de este año, el décimo
realizado por “Cheers”, a directivos de
las 100 primeras empresas taiwanesas,
se enviaron 1600 consultas y se
recibieron 370 respuestas, el 23,13 por
ciento.
El resultado general situó a la
Universidad Nacional de Chengchi
como la primera universidad en
preferencia de Taiwán, y Tamkang
logró el octavo puesto y el primero
entre todas las instituciones de
enseñanza superior de Taiwán, lo
que fue considerado por la rectora,
Dra. Flora C.I. Chang, como una
confirmación de que la institución
camina por el sendero adecuado.

destacaron en varios rubros, entre
ellos en la capacidad para trabajar en
equipo, donde consiguieron el cuarto
puesto nacional, por delante de muchas
prestigiosas universidades públicas; en

puesto nacional; y en la creatividad,
donde ocuparon el cuarto puesto.
Estos resultados en la preferencia de
los empresarios sobre graduados de las
distintas universidades muestran que la
universidad responde a la necesidades
sociales y empresariales de la isla, y
que sus graduados tendrán preferencia
a la hora de encontrar trabajo después
de la graduación.
OTRA UNIVERSIDAD HERMANA
JAPONESA OTORGA DOBLE
TITULACION
El rector de la Universidad Nagasaki
de Estudios Extranjeros, Koichi Ikeda,
junto con el director del Centro de
Intercambios Internacionales de esa
institución, Akihito Ishikawa, y el
subdirector del mismo centro, Nakaya
Shinsuke, visitaron Tamkang el 24
de marzo, para firmar un acuerdo
que supone un salto de gigante en la
cooperación con Tamkang.
La rectora de Tamkang, Dra. Flora
C. I. Chang, señaló que la Universidad
Nagasaki de Estudios Internacionales,
es la primera universidad japonesa
que firma un acuerdo de concesión
de doble titulación, y en este sendero
sigue a instituciones tan prestigiosas
como la Universidad Jean Moulin
Lyon 3 (Francia), la Universidad
Tecnológica Curtin (Australia) y la
Universidad de la Sorbona (Francia).
El año pasado, una graduada del
Departamento de Francés, Deng
Chia-yun, obtuvo una doble maestría
en Tamkang y en la Universidad
Jean Moulin Lyon 3. Este año, tres
estudiantes del posgrado en Francés
también aspiran lograr la doble
titulación. Hsta la fecha nadie ha ido a
Curtin, quizá debido a que exige una
nota muy alta en el examen TOFEL
de dominio del inglés. Lin Sheng-bin,
estudiante de doctorado del Instituto
de Chino, estudia ahora en la Sorbona,
y espera lograr un doble doctorado en
un futuro cercano.

Tamkang felicitó a la universidad por

Universidad Waseda en Japón. Auguró

El profesor del Departamento de
Español, Dr. Lin Sheng-bin, quién es
también estudiante en el programa
de doctorado del Departamento de
Chino en Tamkang, se encuentra en la
Universidad de la Soborna en Francia,
para lograr un doble doctorado en
estudios chinos, gracias al acuerdo de
Tamkang con la universidad gala.
El Dr. Lin está avanzando en su
tesis doctoral en París y considera que
París es un lugar privilegiado para
entrar en contacto con expertos en
su especialidad. Estos intercambios
de ideas son “un canal para absorber
e intercambiar conocimientos, y un
importante paso adelante en la vida
personal”, dijo el Profesor Lin.

des institutions privées, le respect
que les professionnels leur accordent
est de plus en plus manifeste. Les
regards sont particulièrement fixés
sur Tamkang. » Ces résultats sont un
baume au cœur de nos étudiants qui
vont entrer, après la fin de leurs études,
dans la difficile période de recherche d’
un travail.
On peut noter que dans la catégorie des
industries de la finance, Tamkang n’est
devancée que par Chengda et Taida,
avançant ainsi de quatre places dans le
classement. Dans les autres catégories,
Tamkang se maintient dans les dix
premiers et n’a pas à rougir de son
rang face aux universités publiques,
mieux pourvues.
Notre présidente s’est déclarée fort
satisfaite de ce classement et se
félicite que les perspectives d’emploi
de nos étudiants soient aussi bonnes,
nous engageant ainsi à continuer
notre effort de professionnalisation.
Les qualités de nos étudiants ont été
reconnues, les industriels interrogés
ont révélé ainsi qu’ils appréciaient
particulièrement l’esprit d’équipe, la
stabilité et la volonté de s’instruire
d e s d i p l ô m é s d e Ta m k a n g . L e s
rubriques où nos étudiants ont été
mal classées sont un aiguillon nous
enjoignant de poursuivre nos efforts.

urgent de renforcer les connaissances

Lors d’un symposium, le docteur
Koichi nous a déclaré compter
Tamkang comme une université
comparable aux plus grandes
universités japonaises ; il compte
bien à l’avenir développer encore les
relations d’amitié et de recherche entre
nos deux institutions. L’université
des langues étrangères de Nagasaki
forme des étudiants à sept différentes
langues, dont l’anglais, l’allemand
et le français. Ces relations, depuis
la première signature des accords
nous liant, est au beau fixe, avec des
échanges réguliers d’étudiants.

est vannée mais le printemps n’a

d’énergie. Elle est en effet due (la
baisse d’énergie, pas Li Peihua) à l’
organisation minutieuse du premier
colloque régional des associations de

aimables et confraternelles cohortes de
la francophonie militante de la région
Asie-Pacifique, il réunira les colloqués
(nous voulons dire les participants
ci-dessus cités, sur le thème porteur
intitulé « Le français, la francophonie
et la francophilie en Asie Pacifique »,
pour trois jours, du 27 avril au premier
mai, dans le cadre prestigieux de la
salle des congrès de la bibliothèque
nationale de Taipei. On comprend qu’
avec un programme aussi alléchant
(sans compter la présence de nombre
de personnalités de premier plan),
on attende un public aussi exigeant

Auch in diesem Jahr gibt es Grund,
die alljährlich von der bekannten
Zeitschrift Cheers durchgeführte Untersuchung über den Ruf der
AbsolventInnen unterschiedlicher
Universitäten bei den 1000 größten
Unternehmen in Taiwan mit einiger
Zufriedenheit zur Kenntnis zu nehmen. Bereits zum neunten Mal in einer Reihe führen die AbsolventInnen
der Tamkang Universität die Skala
der AbsolventInnen privater Universitäten an. Besonders beliebt sind sie
bei Unternehmen im Finanzbereich.
In diesem Sektor liegen die Werte nur
geringfügig unter denen der Taiwan
National University und der Chengchi University, beides staatliche
Universitäten, die nach traditionellen
Vorstellungen alle Statistiken dominieren.
Krakau
Vom 29. Juni bis zum 1. August
wird in Krakau (Polen) das Colloquium Cultural Difference in Europe:
Political, Legal and Civic Culture in
Poland and its Neighbours stattfinden. Organisatoren der Veranstaltung
sind die Universität Krakau, EUROPAEUM (Oxford) und das CSGCD
der Tamkang Universität. Die Tamkang Universität wird vertreten sein
durch Prof. Mei-Hwa Sung, Dekan
der Fakultät der Fremdsprachen,
Prof. Wen-chin Tai, Dekan der Fakultät für internationale Studien, und
Reinhard Düßel als Mitveranstalter
und Vertreter des CSGCD.
Es wird drei Sitzungen geben,
jeweils eine zu den drei im Titel genannten Themen. In jeder Sitzungen
werden zwei Vorträge diskutiert. Zu
den Charakteristika der Veranstaltungsserie gehört es, viel Raum für
Diskussion zu lassen.
Einer der Höhepunkte der Veranstaltung wird die Europaeum Lecture
sein. Sie wird diesmal von Prof. Tariq Ramadan (St. Antony‘s College,
Oxford) gehalten.

Nagasaki
Besuch von der Nagasaki Universität für Fremdsprachen. Prof. Koichi Ikeda, Präsident der Universität,
und Akihito Ishikawa, Direktor des
Zentrums für Internationalisierung,
haben den Tamsui Campus der TKU
besucht, um ein Abkommen über
kombinierte Studienabschlüsse beider Universitäten auf den Weg zu
bringen. Wie Prof. Cha-Yi Chang,
Präsidentin der TKU, in ihrer Rede
hervorhob, ist die Universität Nagasaki für Fremdsprachen damit die
vierte Universität, mit der ein derartiges Abkommen besteht. Die anderen
sind die Universität Lyon 3, die Sorbonne und die Curtin Universität für
Technologie.
Die Fremdsprachenuniversität
in Nagasaki gliedert sich in sieben
Abteilungen, eine für Amerikanisches Englisch, eine für Britisches
Englisch, eine für Deutsch, eine für
Französisch, eine für Spanisch, eine
für Chinesisch und auch eine für
Japanisch, die Ausgangssprache der
meisten Studierenden dort.

договорённость о возможности
обучения студентов и аспирантов
сразу в двух вузах с последующей
в ы д ач е й и м д ву х д и п л о м о в .
Университет Нагасаки стал первым
японским учебным заведением,
подписавшим подобное
с о гл а ш е н и е с Та м к а н ом . В
прошлом году аспирант факультета
французского языка, проведя лишь
год в Университете Жана Мулена
Лион 3, защитил там магистерскую
диссертацию и получил диплом
традиционно оцениваются
предприятиями выше всех. Среди
частных университетов первое
место уже десятый год подряд
занял Тамканский университет.
Как отметили участники пресско н ф е р е н ц и и , о б с у ж д а в ш и е
итоги исследования журнала, в
Тамканском университете созданы
благоприятные условия для ведения
учебного процесса. Свободный
с т и л ь о бу ч е н и я с п о с о б с т вуе т
расширению кругозора студентов,
поощряет их углублять свои знания
по выбранной специальности с
учётом международного опыта и
перспектив.
В настоящее время ещё только один степень и диплом этого знаменитого
представитель Тамкана - докторант французского вуза.
