OSAKA
Osaka, whose population is 8.8 million and area is 1,892 square
kilometers, has been famous as a commercial city since the 16th
century. It has also played a great role as a prefecture in hosting
many international events. The opening of Kansai International
Airport and the continuously developing transportation networks have made Osaka even more accessible to visitors. Thus
Osaka has become “the place” to meet people from all over the
world.

Whity Umeda (ホワイティ梅田): Expanding its underground market from most of the stations in Umeda conveniently located near terminal stations, and directly connected

Hankyu San Bangai (阪急三番街): One of the largest shopping areas in Osaka, with two floors above ground and two

Diamor Osaka (ディアモール大阪): Natural light fills this
underground mall. Brand-name stores and young fashion boutiques line Diamor Osaka's streets. Take a walk around the

Dojima-Chika-Center (ドージマ地下センター): “Do-Chika”
is always bustling with businessmen from Nishi-Umeda. Nice

①Shin-Umeda City (新梅田シティ)
The Floating Garden Observatory ( 空中庭園 ) is a
Iandmark of Osaka's Kita area. From the observatory, you
can see all of Osaka and beyond to Awaji Island. The popular
Takimi Koji underground market has a retro ambience that

②HEP FIVE/HEP NAVIO (ヘップファイブ/ナビオ)
The very popular “FIVE” is known for its usual urban-center
red Ferris wheel with views of downtown buildings, Osaka
harbor and Ikoma Mountain. Inside, there are many shops for
young people. “NAVIO” has distinguished fashion shops on
each floor as well as a popular place for movies and gourmet.

Osaka’s most famous district glittering with colorful neon
signs and extravagant restaurant decorations.
Crysta Nagahori(クリスタ長堀)
An underground arcade of 100 shops and restaurants
extending from Yotsubashi Sta. to Nagahoribashi Sta.
(through Shinsaibashi Sta.). Open: 11:30-20:30 (shops) and
11:00-22:00 (restaurants).

America-Mura(アメリカ村)
A district featuring many US import shops, used clothing
shops and flea markets. Murals and a statue of liberty on the top
of a building attract many shoppers.
Shinsaibashi-Suji(心斎橋筋)
A district characterized by the contrast between many old
shops and modern department stores such as Daimaru and
PARCO.

A concentration of Japanese vaudeville (“yose”) and movie theaters.
Kuromon-Ichiba(黒門市場)
A 580 meter-long market for fish, fruit, vegetables and other
foods opened since the mid-Taisho Period (1912-1926).

Doguya-Suji(道具屋筋)
A narrow street with many shops dealing in equipment and
utensils used in restaurants or coffee shops. Restaurant owners
come here to buy plastic models of dishes used to display
their menus in the window.
Den-Den Town(でんでんタウン)
A shopping area specializing in electrical goods. It has 300
shops, some of which are Tax Free where you can get an
exemption by showing your passport when you pay. Some
shops sell cameras and watches.

The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka (MOC
Osaka) ( 大阪市立東洋陶磁美術館 ), a 5-min. walk from
Yodoyabashi Sta. or Kitahama Sta. of both the Keihan Line and
subway, was founded in 1982 with the donation of the famous
Ataka Collection of ceramics. The museum is known worldwide
for its extensive collection of Korean and Japanese ceramics
including the celadon. It is one of the must-see spots for museum goers. Open: 9:30-17:00 (enter before 16:30). Closed on
Monday and the New Year's holiday. Admission: ¥1,200.

Tsuruhashi and Uehonmachi (鶴橋・上本町)
The area of Tsuruhashi has been deeply related to Korea historically and is called Korean Town or the International
Market. You’ll find all sorts of things Korean here, from food
to clothing to the Ianguage itself. The shops and restaurants,
selling Kushikatsu, Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki and Sushi, as well
as Korean food, offer a lively and colorful atmosphere.
Everyday is like a festival here. Uehonmachi is locatd east of
the historical town of Uehonmachi Daichi Heights, and has a
terminal station for trains going to the areas of Ise-Shima and
Nara.

Osaka Museum of History (大阪歴史博物館)
On the 10th floor of the museum, you will find yourself in
Naniwanomiya Palace, which is Japan's oldest capital. The
museum is designed to let visitors experience the 1500 year history of Osaka in multi-dimension. On each floor of the building
you can experience a different period of the history of Osaka, for
example, the ancient Naniwazu, the modern period when the
city was called "the country's market place" and also the great city
of Osaka-rich and prosperous with modern industries.

OBP (Osaka Business Park)
OBP includes offices buildings, an excellent hotel and concert
halls. Osaka-jo Hall has been a venue for sports events, modern
ballet and performances by well-known singers. The best sites for
appreciating cherry blossoms along the Okawa River are the area
around OAP (Osaka Amenity Park) with fine hotels and
brand-name shops, and the Mint bureau.

A part of its garden is open to the public during the cherry
blossom season, and many people enjoy strolling down the
pathways shaded by the blossoms (called “Torinuke” in
Japanese).

Osaka Castle(大阪城)
Osaka Castle, the symbol of Osaka, stands in the middle of
Osaka Castle Park. The Kanji characters for Osaka Castle can be
read to men "great prosperity". This is an expression of how this
beautiful castle is thought of as the symbol of the spirit of this
great, commercial city of Osaka. Inside the Castle tower are displays of a number of historically significant artifacts Including the
"Folding Screen" of the Osaka Summer Campaign" and a diorama of the life of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, The Castle tower also
offers superb views of the city of Osaka. The Yagura (turret) and
gigantic stone walls remain as they were in the Tokugawa Era.
They are awe-inspiring for their grandeur and history.
