Brief Descriptions of Organization /
GNC was established in 2002 and has a sister company in India: M/s Nichi-In Bio Sciences
Pvt Ltd along with an R&D centre: M/s Nichi-in Centre for Regenerative Medicine
(www.ncrm.org).
We have been collaborating with Japanese institutes and companies with original
technologies in basic sciences and have been translating them towards an application in
clinical medicine / healthcare in collaboration with clinicians and scientists from abroad.
GNC has successfully completed two international technology transfer projects in Malaysia
and Vietnam, apart from an applicant to five patents in material sciences, cell biology and
immunology related processes and methodologies.
Title of Presentation /
Regenerating diseased corneal endothelium using corneal endothelial precursors
taken from discarded human corneas.
Abstract / 要旨
We have accomplished (i) the transportation of corneal endothelial tissue, derived from corneas discarded due
to unsuitability for transplant to a patient, in varying Indian climatic conditions taking even up to 72 Hrs. without
any cool preservation (1) and retrieval of good quality corneal endothelial precursors (CEPs) and their in vitro
expansion. Then (ii) the CEPs could be successfully transplanted to bovine cadaver eyes using a nano-composite
gel sheet (2) and (iii) in a pilot study in three patients; one who had undergone corneal transplant with bullous
keratopathy on the transplanted graft, other with post traumatic endothelial disease and the third one following
cataract surgery had immediate relief from bullae on the 3rd day and 18-month follow up is continuing to be
having the same status of what it was on the 11th day post allogenic CEP transplantation (3). This method when
becomes a routine procedure, we can use the endothelial precursors cells from discarded corneal buttons and
help solve standalone corneal endothelial diseases in many patients.

Objectives and/or Motives / 目的
We are looking for finding partners for licensing this technology so that the procedure which has been
awarded a patent could be taken through proper steps towards a clinical application. We are open
minded to work together with the partnering institute to make the technology work in their institute/lab.
