Dear Sarah,
Thanks for helping us with our trip. It was nice to meet your
sister here in England. She has helped us a lot. It’s funny because
you’re from England, but you’re living in Japan, and I’m Japanese, but

My father loved the mountains in the Lake District. We also went

with French fries. I thought it was because my English wasn’t good.
My brother said some English words are different in America and
England. In America, chips are potato chips, but in England, chips are

A Popular Writer
Agatha Christie is a famous mystery story* writer. She has
sold 4 billion books around the world. Only William Shakespeare
has sold more books. Also, her books are written in more
languages than any other writer’s books. People can read them in
103 different languages. Christie also wrote plays.* One of them is
called The Mousetrap, and it started over 60 years ago. It is still
playing at a theater now. That is longer than any other play.
In Christie’s stories, someone usually has done something bad.
It is hard to find that person. There is a detective* who tries to
catch the bad person. People like reading her books because they
can try to find the answer, too. Reading these books is like playing
a game.
Christie wrote stories about a detective called Hercule Poirot.
Poirot is a strange man from Belgium. Another famous detective in
her books is Miss Marple. Miss Marple is an old English lady.
People do not think she is smart, but she always finds the bad
person. The stories of Poirot and Miss Marple were made into
many TV shows and movies.
Christie was born in 1890 in Devon, England. She did not go
to school. She had lessons from her mother at home. Her mother
thought children should not learn to read until they were eight years
old. But Christie learned how to read by herself when she was
four. She read many books, so she learned to become a good
writer. She later became a very good pianist and singer, too.

注意事項
・団体申込の場合の受験者の個人情報は、団体申込責任者を通じて協会が取得します。また
取得した個人情報は、英語検定業務の円滑な実施、合格者に対する「合格証明書」発行等
のサービスの実施、および英語検定統計のために利用いたします。なお、業務運営に際し、
委託先に預託することがあります。また、これ以外の目的に利用する場合は、皆様の同意
を得た上で行います。
・団体申込の場合の受験者の合否結果は、原則として団体申込責任者宛に送付されます。ま
た、志願者情報、および合否結果は団体申込責任者が知り得ることをご承知おきください。
・同一回に同じ級を重複して申し込みおよび受験することはできません。受験した場合は、
両方とも失格になります。
