人類学者、ロスキレ大学(デンマーク)、社会グローバル化学部(国際開発学講座)准教授
2005 年ロスキレ大学 Ph.D(国際開発学)取得。
1998-1999 年コペンハーゲン大学人類学部講師、シンガポール国立大学招聘研究員、ロンドン大学ゴ
ールドスミス・カレッジ招聘研究員などを歴任。2007 年より現職。

Johan Fischer’s regional specialization is Southeast Asia and Europe. Thematically, my specialization is on
religion; religious revivalism; consumer/material culture in a religious perspective; middle class; the
transformation of modern forms of capitalism; food cultures; cultural globalization and migration.
After completing my master’s degree in 1997 I taught in the Department of Anthropology, University of
Copenhagen, from 1998 to 1999. In 2000 I started my PhD training at International Development Studies
(IDS), RUC. I have been a Visiting Research Fellow at both the National University of Singapore and
Goldsmiths College, University of London. In my current position as Associate Professor at IDS I am also
teaching at Social Science Basic Studies and Global Studies. In 2007, I completed the professional
postgraduate teacher training courses in project supervision and course teaching [adjunct pædagogikum] at
RUC. Since my first experiences with fieldwork-based research in 1994,
I have conducted fieldwork for a period of over three years in Africa (South Africa) and Europe (Britain) and
Asia (India, Malaysia and Singapore). In connection with periods of fieldwork I have been attached to
universities in Malaysia, Britain and Singapore.
I am the author of PROPER ISLAMIC CONSUMPTION: SHOPPING AMONG THE MALAYS IN
MODERN MALAYSIA (NIAS Press 2008) and THE HALAL FRONTIER: MUSLIM CONSUMERS IN A
GLOBALIZED MARKET (Palgrave Macmillan 2011) as well as numerous articles and chapters in edited
volumes.
Currently, I am working on a book with the provisional title GLOBAL HALAL ZONES: ISLAM, STATES
AND MARKETS.

Florence Bergeaud-Blackler completed her PhD in Sociology at the Victor Segalen University of Bordeaux in
1999, and also holds a Diploma of Advanced Study (DEA) in Social Anthropology. She has previously been
research associate at the Universities of Manchester and of Marseilles, was a visiting researcher at St Cross
College, University of Oxford.
She is Research fellow at CNRS and currently Marie Curie fellow at the Laboratoire d'Anthropologie des
Mondes Contemporains (Université Libre de Bruxelles). Her latest research has concentrated:
- on Religious Food issues and Norms related to transnational migration, trust, European regulation, religious
consumption and standards, and globalized trade.Her work has included undertaking policy studies and giving
expert opinion for government ministries as well as consultancy and training to enterprises and NGOs in
particular regarding the production, regulation and consumption of halal and kosher foods
- on Gender/Sexuality and Religious Norms
