• Though not as unhealthy as partially hydrogenated oil, palm oil
still promotes heart disease.
• Be sure to read labels and select products with nonhydrogenated soybean, corn, canola, or peanut oils, which
don’t harm your arteries - or the rainforest.
• We can find other ways of making cookies.
• We can’t find other ways of making orangutans.

Palm oil is derived by Oil palm
●The main production place is Malaysia and Indonesia
(90% of the world’s production)
⇒ The tree was introduced from West Africa
●Production by the large scale plantation and oil mill.
Fruits must be squeezed within 24 hours because of the
self decomposition by its enzyme)
Palm Oil Plantation
Fruits must be squeezed within 24 hours after the
harvest, so the oil mill should locate nearby. The
minimum size to sustain one oil mill is 5000 ha, so
it is sometimes over 10,000 ha. The yield is about
6 tons/ha. After the process, the oil is shipped to
the tank yard by the truck.
