Background
The measurement of oxygen metabolism by PET using
oxygen-15 gases ([15O]O2, [15O]CO and [15O]CO2) is useful
for the detection of penumbra in acute stroke.
The conventional synthesis of [15O]CO and [15O]CO2 are not
suitable for rapid supply of oxygen-15 gases in clinical use,
because they require time to raise the temperature of charcoal
to optimal values.
