He worked with Wolfgang Wagner at the Bayreuth Festival and at a number of opera houses before being called to Saxony by state minister Hans Joachim Meyer in order to develop a new law system of co-ordinating and financing cultural institutions. Vogt left the government in 1997 founding at Görlitz under the patronshop of UNESCO general director a university course “Culture and Management B.A., M.A.” and concentrated on theoretical and empirical studies in Cultural Policy. He is founding director of the Saxonian Institute for Cultural Infrastrucuture, professor honoris causae of the University of Pécs and officer of the order of merit of the Polish Republic. Transboundary Language: Movement of Culture and Ideas the Sino-Lao Border Area Nathan Badenoch Assosiate Professor of Kyoto University [Southeast Asia area studies, environmental governance, linguistic anthropology] Nathan Badenoch grew up in the ethnically diverse city of Philadelphia, where he was exposed to a number of Asian languages. He obtained his PhD in Area Studies from Kyoto University in 2006. He has worked on environment and development issues in Southeast Asia for 15 years. He is currently working at Kyoto University’s Hakubi Center on a project to examine the dynamics of human diversity in areas of rapid social change, where his primary focus is on linguistic practices of local people. History Says Otherwise: On Hindu-Muslim Relations in Early Modern South Asia Kiyokazu Okita Assistant Professor of Kyoto University [Classical Sanskrit Literature] Kiyokazu Okita is an Assistant Professor at the Hakubi Center for Advanced Research / Department of Indological Studies, Kyoto University. After obtaining his D.Phil. from the Faculty of Theology and Religion, University of Oxford, he served as a lecturer at the Department of Religion, University of Florida (2010-11). Subsequently, he was a JSPS post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Indological Studies, Kyoto University (2011-13) as well as a visiting research fellow at the Asia-Africa Institute, University of Hamburg (2012-13). His research focuses on religions of South Asia, with an emphasis on Classical Sanskrit literature. Discussant Pierre-Yves Donzé Cédric Tassel Pierre-Yves Donzé is associate professor and hakubi scholar at Kyoto University. He was born in Switzerland and studied history at the University of Neuchâtel, where he obtained his PhD in 2005, before doing stints as a visiting researcher in Japan and in the United States. Cedric Tassel is assistant professor and Hakubi scholar at Kyoto University. He was born in France and studied Chemistry of materials at the University of Rennes I until 2007. During his Master, he studied for four and six months at Kyoto and Oxford University. He obtained is phD in 2010 at Kyoto University.
