１・はじめに｜Preface
Finland, where a number of music festivals are held every year, is known as one of the leading
countries in the area of contemporary music. However, Finnish contemporary music has had few chances
to be introduced in Japan so far.
This October, we invite 6 members from Avanti! Chamber Orchestra to hold concerts in three cities:
Yokohama, Tokyo, and Kanazawa. The members are composed of four string players (2 violins, 1 viola,
and 1 violoncello), a pianist and the music director/ clarinet player, Kari Kriikku, who is also famous in
Japan.
The concerts are coordinated by Japanese renowned composer, Toshi Ichiyanagi, who is also
associated with Finland. The program varies from Sibelius to pieces by talented contemporary Finnish
composers as well as new work by Ichiyanagi specially commissioned for these concerts. Before 2015,
150th anniversary of Sibelius’s birth, these concerts will help introducing Finnish music into Japan and
developing cultural exchange between the two countries.

１・はじめに｜Preface
フィンランドでは毎年数多くの音楽祭が開催されるなど、現代音楽の分野でヨーロッパをリードしている国として
知られておりますが、まだ日本国内でフィンランド人作曲家の作品が紹介される機会は多くありません。
そこで今回、同国においてもっとも有名な夏の音楽祭「Avanti！サマーサウンド・フェスティバル」を主催する
「Avanti！室内アンサンブル」から、音楽監督を務め、日本でも人気の高いクラリネット奏者、カリ・クリーック氏を
はじめとする総勢6名の奏者を招聘し、横浜、東京、金沢の3都市でコンサートを開催いたします。
現代日本を代表する作曲家であり、フィンランドとのつながりも深い一柳慧氏のプロデュースにより、シベリウス
から現代までのフィンランドを代表する作曲家の作品や、一柳慧氏が来日するメンバー6名のために書き下ろし
た新作を含むプログラムを予定しております。2015年のシベリウス生誕150周年を前に、フィンランド人作曲家の
作品を日本で紹介し、両国の文化交流を深める意義深い文化事業の運営に、企業市民として、私たちの協働の
パートナーとして、ご参画いただきたく、何卒ご趣旨をご理解いただき、ご検討くださいますよう、心よりお願い申し
上げます。

２・Avanti！室内アンサンブルとは | Avanti! Chamber Orchestraとは(英）
Avanti! Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1983 at the initiative of conductors Esa-Pekka Salonen and
Jukka-Pekka Saraste and flautist Olli Pohjola to satisfy a need for high-quality ensemble work by
enthusiastic and highly skilled musicians, and because it was recognised that a great deal of contemporary
music and other rare repertoire would remain unperformed otherwise.
Avanti! has responded admirably to the challenge that it set itself: many new musical ideas in Finland
have been channelled through it. It is an ensemble that varies in size from a solo player to a symphony
orchestra. It specializes in no particular genre, rather, it is proud to be a specialist in all styles with a strong
sense of responsibility for the music of today.
Besides winter season's concert series in Helsinki, the orchestra has held a music festival of its own
every summer in Porvoo since 1986. For the earliest festivals, various ideas were pooled. There are still
traces of the original unfettered vision in the unexpected twists in the repertoire. Avanti! is constantly on the
move: it has become one of the most active ambassadors of Finnish music abroad. International
engagements take the orchestra regularly around the world.
Clarinettist Kari Kriikku has been the Artistic Director of Avanti! since 1998.

Avanti！室内アンサンブルは、現代音楽など上演機会に恵まれない優れた作品を演奏することを目的に、指揮
者のエサ＝ペッカ・サロネンとユッカ＝ペッカ・サラステ、フルート奏者のオンリ・ポヒョラが1983年に設立しました。
多様なスタイルと高い演奏技術をもった演奏家集団として、ソロ曲からフル・オーケストラまで、ジャンルにこだわら
ずにさまざまな形態の音楽を上演、常に新しいアイデアを取り入れながら、「今日の音楽」に対する強い責任感を
持って、フィンランド音楽界の発展に寄与しています。
ヘルシンキにおけるコンサート・シリーズのほか、1986年より毎夏、ポルボーにおいて音楽祭を主催。フェスティ
バルでは初期よりさまざまなアイデアを取り上げており、現在においても当時の自由なヴィジョンから着想を得た
独自のプログラムを展開しています。
Avanti！室内アンサンブルは定期的に海外公演を行うなど、国際的にも活発に活動し、フィンランド音楽を海外
に紹介する文化使節としての役割を担っています。
1998年よりクラリネット奏者のカリ・クリーック氏が音楽監督を務めています。
