In this symposium we will focus on the benefits of partnership, and both the barriers and strategic approaches involved, through sharing stories of successful solutions to global health challenges achieved by corporate partnerships. We are particularly aiming to explore the potential for taking diverse approaches that utilize the unique characteristics of each corporation, thus making a more meaningful impact and contribution to international society. Prior to joining the GAVI Alliance, Seth was the founder, president and CEO for 15 years of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative ( IAVI ), the first vaccine product development public-private sector partnership. Prior to founding IAVI, Seth served as associate director in the Health Sciences Division at The Rockefeller Foundation. He has also worked for the Center for Infectious Diseases of the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ), the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and for the Carter Center where he served as an epidemiologist at the Ministry of Health in Uganda. He is a Board Member and chairs the Corporate Management Operating Committee which oversees all investments in research and development, business development and in-licensing of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited. He serves as Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited. and Takeda Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. He was formerly President of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Global Health Program. In this capacity he oversaw grants totaling over $9 billion in programs directed at applying technologies to address major health challenges of the developing world including TB, HIV, malaria and other infectious diseases, malnutrition and maternal and child health. Before joining the Gates Foundation Dr. Yamada was Chairman, Research and Development and a Member of the Board of Directors of GlaxoSmithKline. Before joining GlaxoSmithKline, he was Chairman, Department of Internal Medicine and Physician-in-Chief of the University of Michigan Medical Center. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA in history and obtained his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine. His professional experiences include the external relations department at SONY Corporation, the Economic Section at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo (as an officer in charge of economic and trade policy), the Bloomberg TV (as a broadcaster), and the Graduate School of Media and Governance, Keio University (as a part-time lecturer) from 2007 to 2008. Mr. Kaneda started to promote CSR programs at SONY Corporation in 1999, then at Daiwa Securities Group Inc., and is currently promoting CSR activities at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited. Dr. Yasuhiko Toride finished his master’s course in Agricultural Chemistry at the University of Tokyo in 1981 and joined Ajinomoto Co., Inc. While working at the company, he was involved in development, TS, and sales of amino acids for animal feed, new product development at the laboratories, and conducted nutrition improvement tests using Lysine in countries including China and Syria. From 1986 to 1992 he worked at Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. From 2005 to 2009 he worked at Ajinomoto Europe (France), where he managed overall research & development in Europe. Dr.Toride assumed his present post at R&D Planning Department of Ajinomoto Co., Inc. in 2009 and has been promoting nutrition improvement projects in developing nations. Dr. Slingsby is Director of Global Access Strategies at Eisai Co., Ltd. Global Access Strategies is dedicated to the implementation of new partnership-based business models that improve access to medicines, the creation of product development partnerships for new medicines that target diseases of the developing world, and the management of Eisai’s partnership with the WHO in the elimination of lymphatic filariasis. Before joining Eisai, he was involved in the founding of for-profit and non-profit entities in the US and Japan and was active in healthcare research, with over 50 published peer-reviewed articles in journals including the Lancet, Journal of Public Health, and the Journal of General Internal Medicine. Mr. Yamamoto is currently responsible for Daiwa’s fixed income sales for international institutional investors. Before joining the team this July, he had led Daiwa’s “Impact Investing” initiatives, including IFFIm Vaccine Bonds, World Bank World CO2LTM Bond, World Bank Green Bond and the Daiwa Microfinance Fund. Prior to the responsibility of product planning & development for retail investors since 2001 to July 2012, he was responsible for sales planning at Daiwa’s headquarter. He started his carrier at Daiwa’s Kagoshima branch office as a sales consultant in 1998. He frequently appears at international conferences, including the Microfinance Investments in Asia (January 2010), the TBLI Conference ASIA (June 2010), the JCIE symposium “Challenges in Global Health: New Opportunities for the Private Sector” (July 2010), Asia Innovation Forum (September 2010 and TEDxKyoto Change(April 2012). He has been named a Young Global Leader for 2012 by the World Economic Forum. 平林 国彦 国際連合児童基金 (UNICEF) 東京事務所代表 医学博士。約10年間、国立国際医療センター国際医療局に勤務し、ボリビア、コロンビア、インド、インドネシア、 ホンジュラス、ウズベキスタン、南アフリカ、ベトナム等の病院での技術指導、保健省での政策立案支援などを 担当。JICA専門家・WHO短期コンサルタントなどを経て、2003年からUNICEF勤務。アフガニスタン、レバノン、東 京事務所での勤務を経て、2008年からインド事務所副代表を務める。2010年4月からUNICEF東京事務所代表。 Kuniiko Chris Hirabayashi Director, UNICEF Tokyo Office Dr. Kunihiko Chris Hirabayashi assumed his duties as Director of UNICEF Tokyo in April 2010. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Hirabayashi served as Deputy Representative of UNICEF India from 2008. Prior to this, he worked as Senior Programme Advisor to the Ministry of Public Health Afghanistan, Senior Project Officer, Chief of Health and Nutrition Section at UNICEF Afghanistan, Chief of Health and Nutrition Emergency Programme at UNICEF Lebanon and Senior Programme Manager of UNICEF Tokyo Office. Before joining UNICEF, Dr. Hirabayashi worked as Technical advisor for Center for International Medical Cooperation, International Medical Center of Japan, Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and extended technical assistance to many developing countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Honduras, Uzbekistan, South Africa and Vietnam for about 10 years since 1994. He earned M.D. and Ph.D. in medicine from University of Tsukuba, Japan. 閉会の辞 ／ Closing Remarks 小沼 士郎 外務省 国際協力局 国際保健政策室長 1992年、東京大学医学部医学科卒。東京大学付属病院勤務医を経て、1994年、外務省入省。1996年、ＩＮＳＥＡ Ｄ留学。経済局政策課課長補佐、内閣府企画官（経済社会システム担当政策統括官付）、経済連携課首席事 務官、在ジュネーブ国際機関日本政府代表部参事官の後、現職。 Shiro Konuma Director, Global Health Policy Division, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Dr. Shiro Konuma is currently Director of Global Health Policy Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. He graduated from Faculty of Medicine, the University of Tokyo in 1992 and worked for the University of Tokyo Hospital until joining Japanese diplomatic service in 1994. In 1996, he studied at INSEAD in France. Prior to his current assignment, he was Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva, responsible for development and macro-economic issues in the WTO and other trade related organizations. For Your Notes For Your Notes 共催団体のご紹介 ／ Introduction of Co-organizers GAVIアライアンス www.gavialliance.org GAVIアライアンスは、途上国における予防接種へのアクセス拡大によって子ども達の命を救い人々の健康を守るためのグローバル ヘルスにおける官民パートナーシップです。GAVIアライアンスには、発展途上国とドナー諸国の政府、世界保健機関（WHO）、ユニセ フ、世界銀行、途上国及び先進国のワクチン産業界、研究・技術機関、市民社会団体、ビル＆メリンダ・ゲイツ財団、そして民間企業 が参加しています。2000年の世界経済フォーラムで発足して以来、GAVIは550万人以上の命を救い、新規及び十分に利用されてい ないワクチンによって3億2,600万人の子ども達を疾患から守ってきました。 日本医療政策機構 www.hgpi.org/ 日本医療政策機構(HGPI)は2004年の設立当初より、市民主体の医療政策を実現すべく、独立のシンクタンクとして、それまで行われ ていなかった幅広いステークホルダーの結集を実現し、社会に新しい政策議論の場を提供してきました。多様な価値観を尊重し、グ ローバル社会における個人の責任ある行動に基づく、持続可能でより豊かな社会を実現するために、新しいアイデアや価値観を提 供し、グローバルな視点で社会にインパクトを与え、変革を促す原動力となることを目指しています。HGPIは特定の政党、団体の立場 にとらわれず、独立性を堅持するという行動指針にもとづき、将来を見据えた幅広い観点から、政策に関心を持つ市民に選択肢を提 示し、調査分析のみならず多分野のステークホルダーを結集し、創造性に富み実現可能な解決策を示すべく活動しています。 UNICEF 東京事務所 www.unicef.org/tokyo/jp/index.html UNICEF（国連児童基金）は、1946年に、第二次世界大戦で被災した子どもたちに対し、緊急支援を行なうために設立された国際機 関です。以来UNICEFは、すべての子どもたちの権利が守られる世界を実現するために、世界160以上の国と地域で、保健、栄養、 水・衛生、教育、HIV/エイズ、保護、緊急支援、アドボカシー（政策提言）などの活動を実施しています。こうした活動をする上で UNICEFは、1989年の国連総会において採択された「子どもの権利条約」を指針として掲げています。UNICEF東京事務所は、 UNICEFの日本・韓国管轄事務所として、両国政府からの政府開発援助（ODA）による資金協力や、国会議員、国際協力機構 （JICA）、非政府組織（NGO）等との連携を促進しています。 GAVI Alliance www.gavialliance.org The GAVI Alliance is a public-private global health partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing access to immunisation in poor countries. The Alliance brings together developing country and donor governments, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry in both industrialised and developing countries, research and technical agencies, civil society organisations, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Since it was launched at the World Economic Forum in 2000, GAVI has prevented more than 5.5 million future deaths and helped protect 325 million children with new and underused vaccines. UNICEF Tokyo Office The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) was created by the United Nations on December 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II. UNICEF has been since the driving force that helps build a world, where the rights of every child are realized, providing health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and policy advocacy with a presence in more than 160 countries and territories. To conduct such activities, UNICEF upholds the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1989.
