Since Noritake’s inception in 1904 as a manufacturer of porcelain, our
business has grown consistently on a solid foundation of ceramic
technology. These days, we offer a broad range of products and
technologies in sectors as diverse as automotive, steel and other core
industries, and electronic components and materials.
Our century of prosperity has been built on a solid bedrock of passion
and principle. The passion refers to our undying quest for innovative
craftsmanship borne of a desire to manufacture white, beautiful, finely
detailed tableware in Japan. The principle speaks of our founding

In 1909, Ichizaemon Morimura, one of
Noritake's founders, set down “The Creed of
Our Company,” the philosophy to which our
company was to adhere. Outlining concepts
such as “Harmonious Coexistense and
Co-prosperity,” “Social Contribution,” “Trust
First,” and “Integrity and Cooperation,” this
spirit has been upheld to this day, in the
conduct of every member of our company.

Noritake was founded in 1904 out of Ichizaemon Morimura’s strong desire to manufacture white, beautiful, finely detailed porcelain in Japan.
Since then, we have constantly leveraged the core technologies acquired through long experience in making porcelain to expand our business operations.

タケは、得意とするセラミックス関連の技術を応用して、製品
開発に取り組んでいます。
特に新エネルギー分野では、既に様々なノリタケ製品が活用
されています。リチウムイオン電池の電極の製造工程では、焼
成炉や乾燥炉などの設備を供給。また、太陽光発電向けで

Developing New Energies
Environmental issues concern all mankind. We are serious about helping
solve these problems by applying ceramic-related technologies (our forte)
to develop useful products. Noritake products are already used in a range
of areas of new energy industries. For instance, we supply firing and drying
furnaces and other equipment for use in the production of Li-ion battery
electrodes. We have also developed a unique electrode paste and
diamond wire related to solar power generation, and are researching new
products for fuel cells as well.
Leveraging our technological capabilities to help make a better future is an

Noritake is the largest manufacturer of grinding and polishing tools
in Japan, producing a comprehensive range of abrasive wheels,
diamond and CBN tools and coated abrasives. Our products offer
world-class performance with unbeatable finishing precision and
efficiency, and play a major behind-the-scenes role in supporting
Japan’s core industries: automotive, steel, and bearing. These days,
we also offer solutions for new, growth areas. For instance, we
develop diamond wire, an integral part of the processing of silicon

Our core technologies pertain to ceramics and include ingredient
refining, molding, printing and firing. We apply these base
technologies innovatively to develop a truly wide spectrum of
products. These include electronic pastes used in solar power
generation, light-emitting diodes (LED) and ceramic condensers;
thick-film ceramic substrate used in cars and mobile phones; and
vacuum fluorescent displays, a display device that Noritake was the

基礎から応用までの幅広い研究
From basic to applied technologies
燃料電池 ナノマテリアル
1ミリの100万分の1が1ナノです。このサイズの粒子は、大きさ、
形、組成によって特性がダイナミックに変わる可能性を秘めていま
す。この特徴を活かして、金属粒子を燃料電池などの分野で応用す
ることが期待されています。当社では、電子顕微鏡などによる原子
レベルでの構造解析や大型コンピューターを利用したシミュレー
ションを行い、金属粒子の大きさをナノレベルで制御し、粒子活性
を高める方法の研究に取り組んでいます。
Fuel Cells Nanomaterials
Despite being mere nanometers in size (one millionth of a millimeter),
these particles retain immense potential owing to their small size, shape
and composition. There are great expectations that these characteristics can
be harnessed when putting metal particles to use in fuel cells.
We use high grade electron microscopes to analyze particle structure right
down to the atoms, and massive computers to predict and control the
particles sizes and properties nanoscale in order to develop ways of
improving their activity.

太陽電池から電流を取り出すための電極を形成する材料で
す。金属やセラミックスの粉末を樹脂、溶 剤などと混ぜて
ペースト状にしたもので、基板上に印刷、焼成され電極とな
ります。当社は、受光面用、裏面用の銀 及びアルミニウム
ペーストの開発に成功し、現在は太陽光エネルギーを電気
に変換する「変換効率」の向上、環境に配慮した無鉛ペース
トの開発に取り組んでいます。
Solar Cells Electrode pastes for next-generation solar cells
Electrode pastes help form the electrodes needed to extract electric
current from solar cells. Metal and ceramic powders are mixed with
resin and solvents to create a paste, which is then printed on the
substrate and fired to make an electrode. We have successfully
developed silver and aluminum pastes for the front and back surfaces
of substrate. We are now working to further improve the efficiency of
the conversion of solar energy into electricity, as well as developing
environmentally-friendly lead-free pastes.

The temperature inside kilns is extremely high. We
develop refractory containers to transport
ingredients inside such kilns during the firing of
positive and negative Li-ion battery electrodes.
In order to prevent unwanted chemical reactions
between the materials, the metals and other
impurities, we constantly seek the perfect container
with optimum texture, size and shape.

ける空調設備の効率化等の省エネルギー活動を通
じて、温室効果ガスの削減に取り組んでいます。
廃棄物をReduce（抑制）、Reuse（再利用）、
Recycle（再生利用）する3R活動に取り組むとと
もに、お客様のもとで使用済みになった研削砥石
等の回収・リサイクルも行っています。
製品の含有化学物質管理システムの構築・運用を
強化するとともに、原材料や部品の調達基準作成
を進めています。また製造工程では、化学物質の
使用量削減や管理強化にも注力しています。

We work hard to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions
through a range of energy conserving efforts. These
include improving the efficiency of heat equipment used
in the ceramic production process, better fuel conversion
and increasing the efficiency of air conditioners used
when manufacturing electronic materials and
components.
We are avid proponents of the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse and
recycle. What is more, we collect our clients’ used grinding
stones for recycling.
In addition to building, operating and improving a system
for the management of chemical substances contained in
products, we also maintain a list of procurement criteria
for materials and components in order to ensure we buy
the cleanest items possible. Moreover, we endeavor to
minimize the use of chemicals in our production
processes, and constantly seek to strengthen our
management of those chemicals which are used.

ノリタケの森は、
創業以来一世紀にわたって支援を頂いた地域の皆様への感謝の気持ちと、
環境保護への思いを込めて、
創業の地に開設した陶磁器に関する複合施設です。
豊かな木々や緑に囲まれ、
クラフトセンター、
ミュージアム、
ギャラリーなどの文化施設や、
小さな生き物たちが共生するビオトープがあり、
人々が憩い、
文化を育む場として親しまれています。
また広い敷地を生かして､さまざまなイベントに協力しているほか、
震災発生時には帰宅困難者のための一時避難場所として、
地域社会に貢献しています。
We are pleased to operate the Noritake Garden complex,
a ceramics-themed facility located on the site of the company’s first
operations. The Noritake Garden is a sign of our gratitude to the
people of the local community who have supported us for a century
since the company’s inception, as well as a show of our dedication to
environmental protection. Nestled amid lush verdure, the complex
boasts cultural facilities such as a craft center, a museum and an art
gallery, as well as a biotope containing numerous species of small
creatures. Indeed it is a popular place for people to relax and for
cultural development. Moreover, the Noritake Garden’s generous
grounds make it an ideal contribution to community life. For instance,
it is big enough to host a range of events and to serve as a
temporary refuge in an earthquake.
