サンフランシスコ・ベイエリア & サンディエゴ
商学研究科ビジネス専攻では、2014 年 8 月末にカリフォルニアにて開講予定の海外
授業の受講生を募集します。本講義は、2014 年秋学期の先取り科目として、サンフラ
ンシスコ・ベイエリアおよびサンディエゴで開講されます。皆さんの積極的なご応募を

科目開講人数： ５～１5 名程度
開 講 場 所： スタンフォード大学およびカリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校（予定）
授 業 日 程： 8 月最終週頃（日程詳細は決まり次第通知します。
）
※遅くともプログラム開始前日の夕刻までに現地入りすること。
開 講 趣 旨 ： Life Sciences ビジネスの創出に必要なエコシステムの必要条件・十分条件（特に IT セ
クターとの相違点の把握）、Life Sciences ビジネスのファイナンスの現状と課題、Life
Sciences セクターにおけるベイエリアとサンディエゴとその他の地域との相違点・類似
点、などを中心に、現地の専門家を招いたセミナー講義と企業訪問を交えた一週間の日程
とする。出発前に事前の準備課題を与える。また、可能であれば、現地の学生（できれば
MBA 生）も授業での議論に参加してもらう。

(午前) ゲストスピーカーを交えたセミナー講義：ベイエリアを中心とした Life Sciences セ
クターのこれまでと現状を概観する。場所はスタンフォード大学を予定。
(午後) Life Sciences セクターの事業会社を訪問。
3 日目
(午前) ゲストスピーカーを交えたセミナー講義: Life Sciences Business の Financing の
課題を概観する。場所はスタンフォード大学を予定。
(午後) Venture Capital (VC) 会社を訪問。
4 日目
移動日（サンフランシスコからサンディエゴへ移動）夜 kickoff event 開催
5 日目
(午前) ゲストスピーカーを交えたセミナー講義: Innovation System についての概観講義及
びサンディエゴにおける Life Sciences 会社のケース・スタディ。
(午後) Life Sciences 事業会社を訪問。
6 日目
(午前) ゲストスピーカーを交えたセミナー講義: Life Sciences Business 創出のために必要
なエコシステムとファイナンスについての総括討議。
(午後) Life Sciences Business の支援会社あるいは VC を訪問。
夜： farewell event

・ 成績は 2015 年 3 月に発表されます。
・ 応募者多数の場合は、2 年生および 1 年制総合の学生を優先します。

※サンディエゴでの宿泊先は UC San Diego 学生寮利用の可能性有り。

Fall Intensive Course in San Francisco Bay Area & San Diego 2014

We are recruiting WBS students who participate in the intensive course to be held in
California in the end of August 2014. The class will be offered in San Francisco Bay Area and
San Diego. Your participation would be appreciated.

*English proficiency: More than 500 TOEFL ITP/750 TOEIC score would be desired.

*Students are required to arrive San Francisco by the evening of the day before the
program commencement date.
Course Description:
This course will be focused on how we could finance life sciences businesses in the
Bay area as well as in other places and pay attention on how differently the
ecosystem will work for the life science sector from in the more traditional IT sector.
Pre-seminar and reading materials will be provided before we are headed to the Bay
area and San Diego.

Note:
● Please note that this course is „FALL‟ Intensive Course offered in advance of fall semester.
● Graduating students of September 2014 cannot take this course.
● Students cannot register this course in case the total number of credits exceeds the limitation.
2 credits for this course will be counted in the number of credits for fall semester.
(Students who have taken credits to the limit for SPRING semester can also take this course.)
● Grades will be disclosed in March 2015.
● If more than 15 students are interested in registering the course, we will give higher priority to 2nd
year students and students who are enrolled in 1-year MBA program.
● Fees such as air ticket, accommodation, food & drink and travel insurance are paid by students.
● Accommodation and air ticket will be arranged and reserved by each student.
* The Dormitory of UC San Diego may possibly be available.
● Travel insurance at Waseda discount rate must be purchased.
