Keisuke Wakao was appointed assistant principal oboe of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and principal oboe of the Boston Pops
Orchestra in the fall of 1990. He was previously a member of the New World Symphony from its 1988 inaugural season. A native of Tokyo,
Mr. Wakao performed with the New Japan Philharmonic under Seiji Ozawa in 1985 and made his concerto debut with the Tokyo Symphony
Orchestra under Kazuyoshi Akiyama in the summer of 1989. He made his Tokyo recital debut in 1997 and performed with pianist Christoph
Eschenbach in a recital at Sapporo’s 1998 Pacific Music Festival. Mr. Wakao received his performance diploma from Manhattan School of
Music, where he served on the faculty following his graduation in 1987. His teachers include former New York Philharmonic principal oboe
Joseph Robinson at the Manhattan School, and former Boston Symphony Orchestra principals Alfred Genovese and Ralph Gomberg at
Tanglewood, where he was a TMC Fellow. A talented teacher himself, Mr. Wakao founded the annual Keisuke Wakao Oboe Camp in Tokyo
in 1988 and is currently on the faculties of both the New England Conservatory and the Longy School of Music. He is also director of the
Daikanyama Hillside Terrace Music Festival in Tokyo, founder of the Church of the Redeemer Concert Series in Chestnut Hill, MA and the
Ventfort Hall Summer Chamber Music Concert Series in Lenox, MA, and sponsor of the American-Japanese Cultural Concert Series, which
featured performances with Emmanuel Ax and Masaharu Yamamoto in 2010, Yasushi Toyoshima and Kazusa Mizutani in 2009. Mr. Wakao
has made three solo recordings on the Denon label, including Abendlied (1997) with pianist Christoph Eschenbach, and Keisuke Wakao Plays
John Williams (1998), a disc featuring film music by John Williams, with whom Keisuke also collaborated in a performance of the Mozart
Oboe Concerto with the Boston Pops in 1994. Mr. Williams wrote an oboe concerto for Mr. Wakao, who played its world premiere on May
25 and 26, 2011, with John Williams conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall, Boston.

トーマス率いるニューワールド交響楽団にて首席オーボエ奏者。1989年、秋山和義指揮、東京交響楽団との共演を初めとし、各地でのオーケストラとの
共演、また1997年東京での初リサイタル以降、ソリストとしても幅広く活躍している。1998年、札幌のパシフィック・ミュージック・フェスティバル
でピアニスト、クリストフ・エッシェンバッハとのリサイタルを開催。1987年マンハッタン音楽院卒業後、同音楽院で教 を取る。元ニューヨークフィ
ル首席オーボエ奏者ジョゼフ・ロビンソン、新松敬久、佐藤順子、小島葉子、元ボストン響首席奏者であるラルフ・ゴンバーク、アルフレッド・ジョナ
ベスの各氏に師事。1988年より「若尾圭介オーボエキャンプ」を主宰、ロンジー音楽院、ニューイングランド音楽院でも教 を取る。昨今の活動として
は、代官山ヒルサイドテラス音楽祭音楽監督、ボストン郊外リディーマー教会コンサートシリーズ、ヴェントフォート夏の室内楽シリーズ（マサチュー
セッツ州レノックス）、日本̶アメリカ交流コンサートをそれぞれプロデュース、開催している。日本の音楽家をボストンに招聘、日米競演が話題の日
本̶アメリカ交流コンサートでは2009年、ヴァイオリニスト豊嶋泰嗣、ファゴット奏者・水谷上総、2010年クラリネット奏者・山本正治、ピアニス
ト、エマニュエル・アックスの各氏との共演で好評を博した。これまでに日本コロンビア（Denon）より3枚のソロ録音をリリースしており、クリスト
フ・エッシェンバッハとのCD「Abendlied」（1997年）や、「若尾圭介playsジョン・ウィリアムズ」（1998年）等がある。元ボストンポップスオー
ケストラ音楽監督、作曲家ジョン・ウィリアムズとは1994年、ボストンポップスオーケストラと共にモーツァルト・オーボエ協奏曲を共演している。
2011年、ジョン・ウィリアムズが若尾圭介に捧ぐとして作曲した初のオーボエ協奏曲「Oboe Concerto for Keisuke Wakao」は2011年５月25日、26
日、ボストンシンフォニーホールにてジョン・ウィリアムズ指揮、ボストンポップスオーケストラとの共演で世界初演された。

クリストフ・エッシェンバッハ
指揮者として、またピアニストとして多くの活動を行っている。1993年、ピアニストとして、また指揮者としての偉大な功績に対し、
ドイツのヴァイツゼッカー大統領から連邦功労十字章を贈られた。同年「レナード・バーンスタイン」賞を受賞している。2002年に
はフランスのシラク大統領よりレジョン・ドヌール勲章を受章した。
In demand as a distinguished guest conductor with the finest orchestras and opera houses throughout the world, Christoph Eschenbach
began his tenure in September 2010 as Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra as well as Music Director of the John F.
Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Mentored by George Szell and Herbert von Karajan, Mr. Eschenbach held the
posts of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tonhalle Orchestra from 1982 to 1986; Music Director of the Houston Symphony
from 1988 to 1999; Music Director of the Ravinia Festival from 1994 to 2003; Music Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 2003 to
2008; and Artistic Director of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival from 1999 to 2002. His many honors include the Légion d’Honneur;
Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres; the Officer's Cross with Star and Ribbon of the German Order of Merit; and the
Commander's Cross of the German Order of Merit for outstanding achievements as pianist and conductor. He also received the Leonard
Bernstein Award from the Pacific Music Festival, where he was co-artistic director from 1992 to 1998.
