I hope this newsletter letter finds you doing well.
We started the new year vibrantly. Our students
gave up a New Year holiday vacation to practice
and prepare for the recital scheduled for March.
Two volunteer teachers retired this past spring,
new teachers have replaced them, and a new
class has started. Also, we celebrated our 42 nd
anniversary in August.
A biennial recital was held on March 21st. We
did not invite any guest performers from the
outside this year. Sakura Kai students performed
through the whole program and it was very
successful. Not only did they perform but they
also actively participated in making delicious
Japanese sweets, steamed red bean sweet rice
and many other items for the food sale. In
addition, the kitchen volunteers made sakura
mochi using sakura leaves from Japan and
named it “Sakura Kai Sakura Mochi”. They made
it for the recital, our anniversary and the J-Sei
Festival this year.
This past spring, two instructors, Mr. Yukio
Yamawaki of light exercise and Mrs. Yuki Rai of
Line Dance, retired. We truly appreciate their
many years of devotion to Sakura Kai. From now
on we invite them to please enjoy Sakura Kai as
regular members. Bill Sato now teaches Line
Dance and Osaru san of “Laughter and Health”
helps with the exercise class while he is in town
and not traveling back and forth to Japan. A
new class is music bells. Our students are
practicing hard to introduce their sounds at the
bonenkai (year-end party). Our 42nd anniversary
was celebrated with shamisen music, folk songs,
karaoke, okagura and Awa odori (please find the
articles about the bell class and the anniversary
party on the following pages).
There is a little more than two months left in this
year, even though a short period of time, we will
have many fun and exciting programs. We hope
to see you at our meetings and events.

皆さんお変わりなくお過ごしの事とお察し致しす。
私どもは活気のある新年を迎えました。お正月休み
を返上して生徒たちは3月の発表会へ向け猛練習をし
、春には2人のボランティアの先生がリタイヤーなさ
いましたが、新しい先生が加わり、そして、新しい
クラスも始まりました。8月には42回目の創立記念
をお祝いもしました。
3月21日に行なわれた2年に1度発表会は、外部からの
出演者を依頼せず生徒達だけが出演するプログラム
を組み、大成功をおさめました。生徒達は舞台出演
のみならず、個人的に和菓子やお赤飯、色々の品々
を作りフードセールにも積極的に参加しました。。
更に、キッチン
ボランティアは桜会でつくる桜餅を「桜会桜餅
」と命名し、今年は発表会、創立記念日、J-Sei
ファミリー
フェスティバル
と3回、皆さんに日本の味をお届けしました。
今春には体操の山脇幸雄さんとラインダンスのライ
ゆきさんのお二人がリタイアなさいました。長い間
桜会にご貢献下さり有り難うございました。これか
らもお元気で桜会にご参加下さい。ラインダンスの
後任は佐藤ビルさん、そして体操は、日本とこちら
の行き来でお忙しい「笑いと健康」のおさるさんが
、時間が許す限り、体操のクラスをお手伝い下さっ
ています。新しくはじまったミュージックベルのク
ラスは忘年会のお披露目をめざして練習中です。
そして、42回目の創立記念のお祝いは三味線、民謡
、カラオケ、おかぐら、阿波踊りで大層盛り上がり
ました。(ベルのクラスと42周年パーティーの詳細は
後のページにある記事を御覧下さい)。
今年もあと2ヶ月少しを残すのみになりましたが、私
どもは皆さんに楽しんで頂けるブログラムを準備し
ております。皆さんのご参加を楽しみにしておりま
す。

VOTER REGISTRATION PROGRAM

A Voter Registration Program in the Contra Costa
Richmond/El Cerrito area will take place in September
and October, 2015. This is a National JACL-sponsored
program to increase the number Asians who are
American citizens to register and vote starting with the
elections coming in 2016.
To make the Asian Pacific group stronger and more
meaningful to politicians, we need to start building a
base for the long term which includes friends, coworkers ethnic organization members, community
leaders, elders, youth and students who are of voting age
to build power for the long-term issues that matter to all
of us. Only 59 percent of Asian Pacific Islanders group
registered and voted in past elections.
CCJACL will ask for volunteers to assist and will train
volunteers to make phone calls, set up tables to register
APIA at church events ethnic organization activities, and
door to door solicitations to potential voters primarily in
the APIA group.

SAKURA KAI BOARD MEMBER BILL SATO
I am a Sansei born in Poston, Arizona, and raised in
Boyle Heights in Los Angeles. After college at UC
Berkeley and an M.A. at Cal State Hayward I taught for
the Peralta Colleges in Asian American Studies and
History for 32 years and retired in 2003.
After a fun-filled boyhood with lifetime friends and
adventures, the student uprising at college and
questioning the status quo as well as at my job opened
the door to community involvement and service.
Among the many activities I was active in are Asian
Branch Library board, Oakland Asian Cultural Center
board, Tule Lake Committee, National Coalition for
Redress and Reparations lobbying in Washington D. C.,
Bay Area Asians for Nuclear disarmament. Also I
served as secretary and vice president of the Peralta
Federation of Teachers and was chair of the Human
Relations and Welfare Commission for the City of
Berkeley. Now on the North Berkeley Senior Center
Advisory Committee, I teach Line Dancing and am on
the board at Sakura Kai.
I have a daughter who graduated this year from Bard
College. My hobbies are traveling, camping, music,
dancing. I have lived in El Cerrito for 16 years

コントラコスタ、リッチモンドとエルセリート地域の有権者登
録プログラムが2015年の9月と10月に行なわれます。アジア
系アメリカ人の投票率を上げる為の国内JACL支援のプログラ
ムです。
これはアジア太平洋アメリカ人(APIA)グループがより強く、
政治家にとって意味のあるものにする為に、私達は長期的「基
礎」づくりを始める必要があます。投票年齢の友達、民族団体
メンバーの同僚、地域のリーダー、高齢者、若者と学生に、私
達全てにとっても力の基礎を作る為の長期的な問題です。過去
の選挙ではたったの59パーセントのAPIAが登録し、投票し
ました。

As the 2015-2016 adult school year begins, West
Contra Costa School District will again fund our
older adult program because revisions in legislation
now allow older adult programs to join the State’s
funding coalition, linked to career education and to
helping elementary school children. Pro-active help
from Communities Organized to Support Adult
School (COSAS) allowed our voices to be heard
when funding was opposed by the State.
Sakura Kai benefits greatly with the City of El
Cerrito and adult school memorandum of
understanding for use of the Open House Senior
Center the first and third Saturdays rent free. And
we are proud to be a part of the six-year
accreditation granted by Western Association of
Schools and Colleges (WASC) to West Contra
Costa Adult Education in 2012.
However, other aspects for us to think about and
have future discussions about is what we want
Sakura Kai to be in the future. Is location a vital
concern and is our cultural educational program
what newly retired baby boomers will look to for
their sense of community?
In 2006 Sansei Legacy Project and Sakura Kai did
a survey Live at Home in Retirement which showed
most people want to live in their own homes in
retirement as long as they can. Since that time a
number of organizations similar to Beacon Hill
Village in Boston (who originate the idea of a village
that enabled seniors to live at home in retirement)
have been developed across the country. Many of
our existing local groups have support systems that
enable this same sense of community.
Will we meet these needs going forward? At first
Sakura Kai served primarily the Issei and now
many Nisei and Shin Issei. As our Nisei and Shin
Issei population ages and as many more Sansei
become “seniors” what will their needs and
interests be? In 2016 we would like to invite this
kind of dialogue with our Sakura Kai board and with
others in our group.
2015年度の秋学期が始まるときに、西コントラコスタ
学校区域が再び高齢者のプログラムに資金を供給する事
を嬉しく思います。法案の新しい改訂では、高齢者プロ
グラムを加える事を許可しています。曖昧な条項により
、私達のプログラムがキャリア教育と小学校児童の教育
支援にリンクがされていることで、州の資金調達連合に
加わる事が出来ます。成人学校支援地域組織(COSAS)
の援助を通して前向きである事で、州が基金に反対した
時、私達の声を聞き入れてもらえる許可が出ました。
桜会は、エルセリート市と成人学校のオープンハウス
シニアセンターを第一と第三土曜日に無料で使用するこ
とを了解する覚え書きに、沢山の恩恵を受けています。
そして、学校と大学の西部協会（WASC）が2012年に
、西コントラコスタ成人教育へ交付した6年間の認可に
私達が含まれていことは光栄です。
しかしながら、他の側面は、桜会を将来どのようにした
いかを考える事と話し合いです。所在地は重要な関心事
でしょうか、新たに退職したベイビーブーマーが期待す
る彼らのコミュニティ感は、私達の文化的教育なのでし
ょうか？
2006年に三世レガシー
プロジェクトと桜会がが行なった「隠居生活は自宅で」
の調査では殆どの人が隠居しても出来る限り自分の家に
住みたいと回答しています。その時以来、ボストンのビ
ーコン村に似た組織（村の発案で、隠居してシニアが自
宅に住むことが出来る様にした）の数は全国に広がって
います。地元にあるグループの多くは、これと同じコミ
ュニティー感覚の支援組織があります。
私達は今後、これらのニーズに対応出来るのでしょうか
？
桜会は最初主に一世、そして今は大勢の二世と新一世に
奉仕しています。私達二世と新一世の人口が歳をとった
時、さらに多くの三世が「シニア」になった時、彼らの
ニーズと興味は何なのでしょうか？
2016年に桜会ボードと私達グループの人達とこの種類
の対話をしたいと思います。

Entering under fluttering, beautiful Japanese
lanterns, at the El Cerrito Senior Center on August
1, Sakura Kai’s 42nd Anniversary party inside was
also festive and decorated with more Japanese
lanterns, and other decorations to set the mood of a
very special occasion. 42 years ago Sakura Kai
began with big hopes and dreams of having a
senior center for Japanese speaking seniors. Many
years of struggling to find a suitable site, and many
years of dedicated volunteers created what Sakura
Kai is now, a thriving, well attended center, with
wonderful, dedicated volunteers.
Many members
wore their beautiful yukatas or Sakura Kai happi
coats which added to the joyous atmosphere.

Hidesumi Kai, sensei: Hidesumi (Sumiko Flodin)
Shamisen players: Hidenobusato (Katsunobu
Yamabata) and Masume Monroe, singers: Lili Chu
and Chino Nishimoto.

Then came another beautiful event by AWA Odori
Sakura Ren. The AWA odori leaders: Keiji Ohsita,
wife, Reiko Ohno. Okagura was presented by the
group named Iroha. Ten outstanding performers
entertained, and also interacted with the audience,
and encouraged them to dance with them.

Sakura Kai is fortunate to offer a wide variety of
classes taught by our volunteer teachers. We
recently asked our instructors “What benefits would
you like your students to gain from your class.”
Below are the teachers’ replies to our query.
Taiko taught by Ruth Ichinaga, Mary Ann Furuichi
and Susan Nishizaka said: Sakura Kai taiko students
participate in a popular cultural activity that
develops rhythm and musicality. It also provides
weight-bearing exercise (great for improving bone
density), mental stimulation (memorizing complex
patterns)
and
promotes
coordination
and
socialization. Performing taiko develops one’s selfconfidence and a sense of accomplishment.
Sakura Kai Taiko students have provided
entertainment at many community events such as
Berkeley Crop Walk, Daruma no Gakko and J-Sei
and are proof that there’s no age limit for learning
new skills!
Betty Kano teacher of Conversational Japanese
wrote: Benefits I would like students to gain from
my class include feeling comfortable practicing
conversational Japanese, learning about Japan and
gaining exposure to the written language:
hiragana, katakana and basic kanji. We depend on
Satoko Tyrus’ excellent guidance as she is the
expert who fills us in on important concepts as well
as subtleties of Japanese.
Japanese Calligraphy taught by Noriko Kato
wrote: I am hoping that my students learn to both
appreciate and enjoy the art of Japanese brush
calligraphy using a hands-on approach.
太鼓は、いちながルース先生、古市メリーアン先生、西
坂スーザン先生が教えています。スーザン先生述「桜会
の太鼓の生徒達はリズムと音楽性を発達させる人気のあ
る文化活動に参加しています。又、太鼓は体重を支える
運動（骨密度の改善）、精神を刺激（複雑なパターンを
記憶）、協調性と社会性の増進にもなります。太鼓の演
奏は自分の自信と達成感も養われます。」
桜会太鼓の生徒はバークレーのクロップ ウォーク、だ
るまの学校、J-Sei など、多くの地域のイベントに出演
し、それは新しい技術を習うのに年齢制限がないことを
証明しています。
日本語会話のかのうベティ先生は記しています。生徒達
に私のクラスから恩恵を受けて欲しいことは、日本語会
話の練習が快くなること、日本についてと文字：ひらが
な、カタカナ、基本の漢字、を学んで欲しいと思います、
日本の難解さ及び、大切なコンセプト埋めるエキスパー
トとして、タイラス智子さんの優れた指導を頼りにして
います。
日本書道の加藤のり子先生記：生徒の皆さんには、積極
的な態度で、日本の芸術の毛筆書道に感謝する事と楽し
む事との両方を習得して欲しいと思います。

Vicki Chin, Charlotte Sakai, and Marjorie
Fujioka. Scott Takeda says technology has
changed the way we communicate and share
information
Scheduling appointments, social
invitations and event planning are handled
electronically for efficiency and help keep us
organized. Learning to use mobile devices allow
Sakura Kai students to stay engaged with family
and friends, and help improve health and safety.
Angela Urata of Sit Down Yoga said: I hope that
the students find a bit of comfort and ease in their
body through breath and simple movements. I
hope that they feel a sense of connection to their
own bodies as well as to the others in the room. I
hope that joy and equanimity is easier to access.

Sandy Kaya who teaches Ukulele wrote: The
most important thing that I would like my students
to get out of this class would be for them to enjoy
playing the ukulele. If they learn at least 10% of
my lessons, that would be satisfying for me as
an
Instructor. Also, have fun strumming the uke.
It’s hard for them to learn a great deal by having
just one lesson a month.
萱サンディー先生記：一番大切な事は、私の生徒達にク
ラス抜け出してウクレレ演奏を楽しんて欲しいのです。
生徒達が少なくとも 10％を教室で学べば教師としての
私は満足です。さらに、ウクレレをかき鳴らし楽しんで
下さい。ひと月に一回のレッスンで多くを学ぶのは難し
いことです。
Karaoke taught by Nancy Sakamoto said: I wish
them to feel happy singing songs and that the
songs’ meanings will make them feel good inside.
Singing will make them forget their sadness and
problems. They will be more confident the more
they sing.
They will feel happy and joyful,
especially when they sing songs about Furusato
(homeland).
カラオケの坂本ナンシー述「私の生徒達には歌う事を楽
しんで欲しいです、そして、歌詞の意味が彼ら心を慰め
てくれます。歌うことは悲しみや悩み事を忘れさせてく
れます。もっと歌えば自信にもつながります。特に故郷
の歌をを唄う時、生徒達は幸せで、楽しい気持ちになり
ます。」
Music Bell Class is fortunate to have a team of
teachers: Nancy Niijima, Taeko Maeda, Takako
Hayakawa, and Noriko Nakahara. In describing the
class Nancy Niijima said, "I hope that by playing
bells together our students learn about team work,
make friends, and most of all enjoy the class. In
terms of music, I hope they learn skills so they can
make beautiful sounds and feel a sense of
accomplishment. My dream is that in the future
the pretty sound of bells reaches the heart of each
audience member."
Kazue Nakahara and Ellen Inada teach our Iroiro
class and they wrote: the Iroiro class serves to
encourage and satisfy the variety of interests, skills
and talents of our members who are not otherwise
engaged in Sakura Kai classes. We have had
sessions on making ribbon leis, greeting and thank
you cards, bookmarks, writing memoirs and playing
different board or category games. We have also
had stimulating and educational discussions on
various topics relating to Japan and Japanese
Americans. We hope to engage participants in
activities of their choice and in so doing promote
personal, social and informative goals, as well as
having fun!
ミュージックベルはティームの先生方がいらして幸運で
す。新島ナンシー先生、前田多恵子先生、早川崇子先生、
中原憲子先生の四方です。ナンシー先生述「ベルを一緒
に演奏する事でチームワークについて学び、友達を作り、

中原かずえさんと稲田エレンさんが「いろいろ」クラス
の先生方です。先生記：桜会のクラスに参加していない
メンバーの様々な興味、技術、才能を満足させるのには
「いろいろ」クラスをお勧めします。過去には、リボン
レイ、グリーティングとお礼カード、しおり作り、色々
なボードゲームをしました。私達は日本と日系人につい
て様々なトピックにわたり非常に興味のある教育的な議
論を戦わせました。自分で選び、そうすることで個人、
社会、有益な目標を促進し、かつ楽ししんで活動に参加
することを期待しています。
Bill Sato who teaches line dancing wrote: My
line dance students benefit from the class by
exercising their minds and bodies and enjoying
moving to music with a group of their friends.
Following certain step patterns in coordination with
popular music is enjoyable and expands their
musical horizons to include Latin, rhythm and blues,
in addition to country western and pop music styles.
ラインダイインスの佐藤ビル先生記「私のラインダ
ンスの生徒は自分の心と体を動かし、彼らの友達の
グルーブと一緒に音楽に身振りを楽しみながらクラ
スの恩恵を受けて欲しいと思います。幾つかのステ
ッブパターンについて行くことはポピュラー音楽と
連携して楽しく、ウエスタン音楽、ポップ音楽に加
え、彼らの音楽の視野がラテン、リズム アンド
ブルースと広がります。」
Hula is taught by Takako Hayakawa who said:
Hula is a good workout. It is pretty strenuous in
spite of its elegant looks. Hula is also good relief of
stress, helped by beautiful music and graceful
movements. I hope my students have a pleasant
fulfilling time in my class, physically and emotionally.
フラの早川崇子先生述「フラはよいトレーニングで
す。エレガントな見かけにかかわらず、かなりの激
しさです。フラは美しい音楽と優雅差のお陰でスト
レスの軽減にもなります。私の生徒達が身体的、精
神的にも楽しく充実した時間をクラスで過ごすこと
を願っています。」
Yo Hiraoka is our crafts instructor. Yo enjoys
Japanese art, clothing and origami. She would like
like to see Japanese art spread to many
generations. Yo makes her tsuru to share with
others and hope they will learn to love making them
too.
Conversational English class is taught by Grace
Morizawa who wants students to have fun speaking
in English and increase their knowledge of
conversational terms, words, and expressions.
Japanese Computer class is taught by Koko
Baker and Yasuyo Floyd. In this class they offer
drop-in instruction on computers, iPads, or iPhones
for those who wish to use the Japanese language
programs. Classes are small so students receive
individual instruction that is paced for their needs.
平岡ようさんはクラフトの先生です。よう先生は日
本の芸術、着物、折り紙を楽しんでいます。彼女は
日本の芸術を幾世代もの人達に広めたいと思ってい
ます。よう先生は折り鶴を他の人達と共有し、その
人達も又鶴を好んで折ってくれることに期待をして
います。
英語会話は森沢グレイス先生です。先生述「英語を
話すことを楽しんで下さい、そして英会話の用語、
単語、経験の知識を増して下さい。」
日本語コンピューターのクラスはベーカー公子さん
とフロイド靖代さんが先生です。このクラスは日本
語のプログラムを使いたい生徒の為に、コンピュー
タ ー 、 iPads、 IPhones の 授 業 を 予 約 無 し で を 受 け る
ことが出来ます。生徒が自分のニーズに合わせた授
業が受けられる様に小さいクラス構成です。

FIRST 20 YEAR TEACHERS AT SAKURA KAI

Sakura Kai is pleased to know that many third
generation members are now attending Sakura Kai.
Early volunteer teachers were listed in articles by
Wanto Kasumi and by Taeko Yamashita.
In 1973 June Sakaguchi was the coordinator at
Sakura Kai with Mrs. Masako Yoshida as her
Japanese language assistant. The classes were
exercises, knitting, bead work, and various crafts.
In 1977 Bill Waki took over as coordinator when
June Sakaguchi to resume elementary school
teaching. Mr. Kansetsu Uno taught Shigin; Mrs
Fumie Nakamura taught knitting; Mrs. Akiko
(Leslie) Toki taught ceramics; Mr. Shigeru Jio
taught calligraphy; and Mrs. Nellie Sakai (Charlotte
Sakai’s mother) taught crafts.
Later calligraphy was taught by Mrs. Kiriye
Nakagawa; knitting by Mrs. Eiko Katayama; Kimi
Honda did blood pressure readings; ceramics was
taught by Mr. Minoru Nojima; Shigin was taught by
Mr. Shosui Yabusaki; Tai Chi and Yoga exercises
were led by Mrs. Lillian Omi; Japanese songs were
led by Mrs. Jane Imamura; Japanese folk songs
taught by Sansei Mr. Shigeru Morita who learned
from his late mother Masako Morita. Later Mrs.
Hiroko Shishikura with Mrs. Chieko Nagata on the
samisen taught Japanese folk music, kimekominingyo was taught by Mrs. Sadako Hara while Mrs.
Nellie Wralstad looked after song books and was in
charge of entertainment. Mr. Inada looked after
sound system needs, and Mrs. Suzie Nakamura did
sogetsu-style flower arrangements.
Today in 2015 as then volunteer teachers have kept
interest in our program. Our classes have changed
after surveys to find out student interests-performing classes, technology classes, and special
programs with a project or speaker
We hope
continuing efforts make our students stronger and
mentally brighter thanks to the many things they
can learn in our program. In our 42 years many
have moved away, many have passed on but Sakura
Kai’s membership continues to grow as one after
another, new members join and now actively
participate in the programs.

桜会、初期20年の先生方

現在の桜会には多くの三世代目のメンバーが参加していること
をを嬉しく思います。初期のボランティアの先生方のお名前は
わんとうかすみさんと山下たえ子さんの記事に載っています。
1973年、坂口ジューンさんが桜会コーディネーター、吉田ま
さ子さんが日本語のアシスタントになりました。クラスは体操
、編み物、ビーズワーク、様々なクラフトでした。1977年、
坂口ジューンさんが小学校の先生に戻られる事になり、和気ビ
ルさんがコーディネーターを引き継がれました。詩吟は宇野か
んせつさん、編み物は中村ふみえさん、陶芸はとき（レスリー
）あき子さん、書道はジオしげるさん、クラフトはさかいネリ
ーさん(さかいシャーロットさんのご母堂)と以上が方々がク
ラスを担当して下さいました。
後に、書道は中川きりえさん、編み物は北山えい子さん、血圧
測定は本田きみさん、陶芸は野島みのるさん、詩吟は薮崎しょ
うすいさん、太極拳とヨガは近江リリアンさん、日本の唱歌は
今村ジェーンさん、ご母堂の森田正子さんから伝授された民謡
を三世の森田茂さん、後に三味線と民謡は宍倉弘子さんと助手
の長田千枝子さん、きめ込み人形は原さだ子さん、ラルスタッ
ド
ネリーさんは唱歌の本とエンターテイメントの係、稲田さんは
音響係、草月流生け花は中村スージーさんでした。
2015年現在、ボランティアの先生方は私達のプログラムに興
味をもっていて続けて下さっています。生徒達がどんなクラス
や催し物（芸事のクラス、テクノロジー
クラス、特別なプロジェクトや講演のプログラム）に興味があ
るかを調査した結果を見て、プログラム変更をしました。私達
のたゆまぬ努力が生徒達を強くし、プログラムから色々学べる
ことに感謝し、精神的により輝くことを願っています。42年
の間には多くの人が移転したり、亡くなりましたが、桜会は大
きくなり続け、新しい会員が次々に加わり積極的にプログラム
に参加しています。

New Music Bell Class
The newest class at Sakura Kai is a music bell
class. Unlike the traditional English hand bells
which are both expensive and heavy, our class is
using Japanese bells which are lighter and are
designed to be used by elementary and junior high
students and also seniors in Japan. Our students
wear the traditional white gloves to protect the bells
and are learning to follow the music notations as
well as how to shake the bells to obtain the best
sound. By creating beautiful, harmonious music
our students are feeling a great sense of
accomplishment and appreciate the results of
working cooperativelly to create something as a
group.
ASSOCIATE STUDENTS CAN TAKE ONE CLASS
Students can take one class if space is available in
that class. Registration is $10 for one semester
(regular students pay for activities each time they
come to the center). Study trips (if space after
regular students have signed up) at $5 more than
the subsidized cost for regular students based on
costs of the trip.

Sakura Kai took a trip to Ardenwood Historic Farm
in Fremont in July. In September we made a trip to
Big Break in Oakley.
Both trips were made
possible by East Bay Regional Parks who had
received a grant to encourage senior centers to
visit their parks. We are most grateful for their
support and to Jaimee Rissotti who coordinated
our trips as well as the site staff and naturalists

桜会で一番新しいクラスはミュージック
ベルのクラスです。伝統のあるイギリスの
ハンドベルは高価で重いので、私達のクラスは日本
で小学生、中学生、シニア向けにつくられた軽い日
本のベルを使っています。私達の生徒はベルを守る
為に従来の白い手袋をします。そして生徒達は楽譜
を理解することと共に、良い音が出るベルの振り方
を学んでいます。美しくて調和のとれた音色を出す
ことで、生徒達は成し遂げることの大きさを感じ、
そしてグループで何かを創作する為に協力し、努力
した結果に真価を見いだします。
准生徒は一つクラスがとれます

の後に空きがあれば）旅行の経費に桜会が補助した
金 額 で 、 一 般 の 学 生 よ り ＄ 5余 分 に 徴 収 し ま す 。
桜 会 は 7月 に フ リ ー モ ン ト に あ る ア ー デ ン ウ ッ ド 歴
史 農 場 へ 行 き 、 9月 に は オ ー ク レ イ に あ る ビ ッ ク ブ
レイクへ行きました。湾東地域公園がシニアセンタ
ーに公園見学を勧める為の補助金を受けたことで、
2つ の 旅 行 が 叶 い ま し た 。 彼 ら の 援 助 と 、 そ し て 旅
行をコーディネイトして下さったジェイミー
リソッティさん、現場のスタッフ、興味深い旅行に
して下さった動植物学者の皆さんに感謝します。
