はじめまして。日本の S y u R o です。
大きく広げた手のような葉をもつ、
あのヤシ科の植物「棕櫚（しゅろ）」からつけました。
We’re na med a f ter the Japa nese term for “pa lm tree”
– having leaves li ke spread open wide much li ke welcoming ha nds.
We wish our ha nds to be gentle a nd generous
in our “monozu kuri ” – ha nd made creativit y.
私たちのモノづくりの手が、優しく大らかなものであるように。
種となるのは「出会い」。
人との出会い。素材との出会い。
その種を、丁寧に育てていく。

職人泣かせの新入りです。
人生で大切なことは、何気ない日々の中にある。
人気の缶シリーズに、角缶の真鍮と銅が仲間入り。真鍮・銅は、硬くて加工
だから、時には少し立ち止まり毎日を見つめなおす。
しにくいのですが、薄くすると、丈夫さが損なわれてしまう。試行錯誤のすえ、
活版印刷の温もりを持ったこのカードを手にした時、生活への

– old Edo’s “shita machi ” (downtown) – a n area fi l led with
cla ssic t y pesetters, ca nning factories, cloth wholesa lers,
a nd hardware stores.
T hese include sma l l fa mi ly-r un factories engaged in meticu lous
“monozu kuri.” A rtisa ns a nd their arts,
cu ltivated over ma ny years, rema in a live here.
S yuRo がアトリエ兼ショップを構えているのは、東京の台東区、鳥越。

いわゆる日本の下町と呼ばれるエリアです。
昔ながらの印刷屋さんや缶工場、
布卸問屋や金物屋さんなどが所狭しと並ぶ、人情味あふれるこの町。
界隈では、いずれも家族単位の小さな工場が、
丁寧なモノづくりを行ってきました。
そこに生きているのは、何年もかけて磨き上げた、職人技です。
ところが、世界共通の流れでしょうか、
「安く、大量に」といった生産性重視の波に押され、
泣く泣く職を手放す方もいます。
わたしたちの宝とも呼べる職人技を、失ってはいけない。
そこで SyuRo は、自らをそうした職人技の
もうひとつの活躍の場にしたいと思いました。
新しい素材と引き合わせてみる。思わぬ生活雑貨をもちかけてみる。
アイディアを掛け算することで、製品の品質が高まるばかりでなく、
職人技を、特別な工芸品としてだけでなく

So warm, yet not burning
The ideal dishcloth consists of several layers of cloth such
as mosquito netting .
Do you know about masu and hinoki?
Traditional Japanese cypress sake cups, which are square, were originally used to
measure rice and are now used also for holding beans for Setsubun (traditional
end of winter). Japanese cypress features a subtle color, a beautiful wood grain,
and a unique fragrance. Components from within relax people as if they were
bathing in a secluded forest pool.
Japanese cypress is also used in making traditional Japanese wooden bathtubs.
Candles and their container are created using Japanese cypress and its scented
wax. The candles and containers use the same Japanese cypress. They provide
warmth even without being lit, unlike ceramic or metal containers.
Your relaxation time becomes doubly relaxing thanks to Japanese cypress.
The Japanese character for “rest”（休）consists of the characters for “human”
and “wood” – indicating the sense of comfort and healing associated with wood.
Won’t it burn? Don’t worry. It’s fireproof.
Ordinary dishcloths are not useful for wiping things off, stains are hard to
remove, and they take too long to dry. To solve such problems, we created this
dishcloth, which is made of 8 sheets of coarse mosquito netting.
This new dishcloth easily wipes things clean, and is easy to rinse and dry
– the ideal dishcloth!
Dishcloth → kitchen cloth → dust cloth → waste cloth
They can be used for a long time because they are carefully made one by one and
strong. As they are used by washing, glues in the original cloth are left as is.
The coarseness felt at first turns very soft through repeated use.
The more you use it, the more your hands get used to it, making you feel that
it is “my dishcloth”. Which one was the dishcloth and which one was the table
dust cloth?
So that you won’t have to be asking this question, three types of stitching colors
are available – white, mustard, and blue gray.

火を灯さなくても、あったかい。
理想のフキンは、蚊帳のミルフィーユでした。
ひのきの枡に、ひのきの香りの蝋。器と中身で、ひとつのもの。火を灯さず
ふきとりやすい、汚れがすすぎやすい、乾きやすい。
ともあったかい。そんなアロマキャンドルをつくろうと思いました。ひんや
目の粗い蚊帳の生地を８枚重ねて、理想のフキンができました。
りする陶器や金属の器と違って、ぬくもりのある木ですから、アロマの優し
食器フキン → 台フキン → 雑巾 → ウエスと長いおつきあいができるのは、
い時間が、もっと優しくなりました。そういえば、「休」という字は、人べ
ひとつひとつ丁寧に縫いあげた丈夫さだから。

This soap is skin-friendly but tough on stains.
The ideal towel is “plump and thin.”
You spend much more time washing things other than your hands, so 3 types
of soap come into the picture. They are skin-friendly because they contain no
artificial color or fragrance, and can be used for washing plates, clothing – and,
of course, hands.
W hich do you prefer, the sof t towels in hotels or
those in Japa nese inns that are ea sy to wring out a nd dr y?
The first is soap made from used cooking oil by repeated filtration. The second
is recycled soap. Soap left over in production tanks or trimmed off during
manufacturing – in other words, leftovers – are still useful as soap. These are
collected and kneaded together, so each soap has its own pattern and scent.
The third is “additive-free”. It is placed under hot water repeatedly during
manufacturing process to obtain sparkling white soap containing only the
purest soap ingredients. Creamy foaming prevents skin from becoming rough.
The soap is rectangular for easy handling. (the same as SyuRo rattles)

「ふっくら、うすい」が、理想でした。
《廃油石鹸》ろ過を繰り返し、使用済みの食用油を立派な石鹸に。
ふんわり手触りのホテルのタオルと、しぼりやすく乾きも早い旅館のタオル。
《リサイクル石鹸》釜に残ったり、成形で削られたものを練り合わせました。
そんな 2 つのいいところを掛け合わせました。
《無添加石鹸》何度もお湯にくぐらせて、純粋な石鹸成分だけの真っ白さに。
使ったのは、最高級の超長綿、スーピマ。シルクのような手触りと、
どれも化学的な着色料や香料を含まず肌に優しく、手洗い、食器洗い、
しなやかな光沢です。 何度も洗濯しても、耐久性や柔らかさ、吸水性は
お洗濯などいろいろ使えます。
そのまま。通常より細い糸でつくることで、重ねてもかさばらない、
クリーミィな泡で、洗い上がりがつっぱりません。
使い勝手の良い薄さに仕上げました。

fact that pieces of cloth lef t over from tent-ma k ing were too sma l l to
ma ke up a tent a nd cou ld on ly be thrown away which wa s wa stef u l.
ある日、下町のテント屋さんが嘆いていました。

We decided to do something about it. We cou ld n’t ma ke a tent, but
how about something sma l ler? Tent cloth is thick a nd waterproof.
How about creating prett y bag s in decorator colors such a s those in
fa nc y cof fee shop blinds!
T his wa s the start of Kota . Tent cloth durabi lit y is g uara nteed , a nd
repeated wa shing brea ks down the wa x coating. T hese features ma ke
such cloth more attractive, the more it is used . It is dyed a s a raw
materia l, so the colors stay brig ht. I n add ition to sta ndard g reen a nd
g ray, color variations include nav y blue, sk y blue, a nd red .

テントをつくる際にどうしても出てきてしまう
半端の生地たち、それぞれは新品なのに、
テントを仕立てるには少しだけ寸足らず。
ただそれだけなのに、捨てなきゃならない。
なんとかならないものかなぁ。

わたしたちが手をあげました。
テントはつくれませんが、それより小さなものならばつくれます。
厚手で防水加工まで施してあるテントの生地。
洒落たカフェの軒を飾る色味で
バッグを仕立てたらなんてステキでしょう。
Kota のはじまりは、そんな人との結びつきからでした。
テントの生地ですから、耐久性はお墨付き。
洗うとワックス加工のパラフィンが割れてくるのも、
使うほど味が出てくるポイントです。
原料の段階で染めているので、発色もとっても鮮やか。
定番のグリーンとグレーに加え、ネイビー、水色、赤と、
カラーバリエーションも豊富です。

エアメールから、軽さのおすそわけ。
挟むものに合わせて、変身します。
エアメールの紙を、 ノートにしました。 時には何万キロも旅をするその
パッタンパッタン、 閉じたり開いたり。 これなぁーんだ。
紙だから、 なんといっても軽さが特徴。 秘密は、 原料であるアメリカの
正解は、 ありません。 メモをまとめる。 本に挟んでしおりにする。
針葉樹。 繊維の長いパルプができ、 薄くて丈夫な紙がつくれます。
マネークリップとして、 お札を束ねてみるのもいいのかも。
