同志社大学ITEC（技術・企業・国際競争力研究センター）では、独創的イノベーションで起業や事業開拓をめざ
す方々のために、2年前から米欧の大学・ビジネススクールと連携しながら、技術起業家養成プログラム（STEP）
を実施してきました。
2004年度（第1回）は、UCLA（カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校）、USC（南カリフォルニア大学）、UCI（カリ
フォルニア大学アーバイン校）各ビジネススクールと連携して、米国ロサンゼルスで行ないました。
2005年度（第2回）は、 フランスのビジネス教育で最も定評のあるグランゼコールEDHEC (école supérieure
de commerce et de management)と連携して、フランス・ニースで実施するとともに、ソフィア・アンティポリスに
集中する日米欧のハイテク企業研究所を多数見学しました。これらの受講者の中から、多数の起業家が輩出さ
れるに至りました。
2006年度（第３回）は、ケンブリッジ大学IfM (Institute for Manufacturing) で行ないました。ケンブリッジ流
のMOT（技術経営）および起業家養成プログラムを学びました。さらには、ケンブリッジ現象とでも呼べるベン
チャー企業のクラスタリングの現状を見学するフィールドワークを、ケンブリッジ・サイエンスパークなどで行ないま
した。
2007年度（第4回）は、UC Berkeley （Haas School of Business）とシリコンバレーで行ないました。ハー
ス・ビジネススクールではアンドリュー･アイザックス教授やヘンリー・チェスブロー教授らからの講義を受けました。
また、シリコンバレーでは、ピクセラ社ほか多数のハイテク企業を訪問し、創業者たちと対話を行ないました。

The Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory (HCL) was
established in 1989 as an 'embedded Laboratory' in
the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge University with
the aim of creating new concepts of advanced
electronic/optoelectronic devices. In close
collaboration with the Microelectronics Research
Centre (MRC) of the University, HCL is a truly
international team of researchers, and its openness
for research has produced a profitable collaboration
for over a decade.
HCL specialises in advanced measurement and
characterisation techniques, and MRC specialises in
nanofabrication techniques.

Toshiba Cambridge Lab. (09/14 Thu14H30-15H30)
The Quantum Information Group (QIG), lead by
Dr Andrew Shields, is actively researching the application
of Quantum Physics to Information Technologies. Our
interest lies not only in exploring new concepts, but also in
their practical realization. We have developed the leading
system for Quantum Cryptography, a very secure form of
optical communications.
The Speech Technology Group, located on a
second site in Cambridge City Centre, is developing
speech recognition and synthesis systems. Lead by Dr
Kate Knill, they support Toshiba's European and American
speech technology development.
The Cambridge Research Laboratory physics
and biotechnology department is also actively working on a
novel cross-disciplinary physics/biotech project using
Toshiba's recently patented soluble substrate technology
applied to the area of biosensors, bioassays and high
throughput screening.
